I see that some people's idle temp for their cpu is around 30-40 degree celcius with an ambient temp of room temp. Well my cpu idles around 50-55 and gpu idles high 50s and low 60s.... Whats going on here?
core duo t7250 2.0ghz
4gb ram
8600 gt ddr3

Until you hit the 80's or 90's, there's nothing wrong.
-
that sounds fine, right now I'm 64C on my gpu and the fan will kick in any second .....
and my avg cpu core temp is 54C.........
and I'm just surfing.......... -

Cooling solutions:
1) Cooling Pad
2) Undervolting
3) Thermal Paste (notebook invasive) -
CPU for me is 37 idle. GPU is about 45.
That's with Arctic Silver and cooling pad. -
are there any disadvantages in undervolting...
Don't apply thermal paste unless your warranty has expired, cuz if u end up sending it back in the future your warranty was voided o.o
best choice would be a cooling/thermal pad -
I don't think they would even know that I applied thermal paste. How would they know? There aren't any warranty stickers!
And I highly doubt they are going to inspect a laptop to that degree should something go wrong. They probably just throw it in a large bin which is then sent to the refurbish department. -
-
@flip, who exactly is going to check that out. I can't see it possible that every laptop that comes in broken, they check it for everything, especially the CPU. That would take extreme amounts of manpower to check every CPU, if it has stock goop or not!
Like I said, they prob dump all the laptops to the refurb depot! -
-
Plus if they need to clean the fans/heatsink they need to take it out which shows the cpu/gpu bare -
And the person taking it apart? I don't think they'll really be able to tell. All in all, there isn't really any way of proving it. You can say that's how you got it. Remember, there aren't any warranty stickers to prove otherwise.

Which program do you guys use to constantly monitor your temps ?
-
People that open notebooks are technicians not monkeys. They probably open up 100 of these laptops everyday. Im quite sure they can tell whats supposed to be there and what not.
But chances are they wont find out.
-
Use CoreTemp. Great program.
-
When the tech took apart my laptop and applied new thermal paste......Shin Etsu, does that mean that my warranty is void? No it does not.
-
Exactly. well said!
-
I honestly think it's worth it. My CPU idles at about 37-40C, Cmon who wouldn't want that.
-
Dell might let you but most manufacters will void your warranty IF they find out youve tampered with the hardware. And not just notebook manufacturers, it applies to alot of other electronics.
The fact that your doing something invasive and risk damaging parts isnt in the manufacturers best interest. They are the ones that will have to fix it through warranty.
Im not saying its a bad idea but i sure wouldnt recommend it to someone that doesnt know the notebook very well. Id do it myself but i dont need to as my idle is at 34c already. -
Very good point there. If you don't know enough about opening up laptops it is strongly suggested not to open it up and start messing around with the CPU and stuff.
By the way, nice guide there flip! I'm gonna check it out and see how low I can get with my T9500. Maybe I can get it down to like 30C, that would be nuts! -
Yups. thanks
Give Undervolting a try, it works wonders. -
I'm in middle of doin it now! Already got two BSOD's lolz. for the highest multiplier I got it down to 1.0250 (pretty sick huh) I'm gonna start lowering the other ones. I did this before on my T7500, so I'm not such a noob at this.
Take care. I really like the guide. There was a guy who made a guide a long time ago. I remember reading his guide! Though I gotta admit, newer is always better!
