Last night i uninstalled the McAfee that came pre-installed on my M1530, which appeared to be completed successfully. However, when i tried to load AVG on afterwards it told me that i already had anti-virus installed. When i checked in the vista security center it did indeed tell me that McAfee was loaded and up-to-date.

Have tried now for many hours to get this removed so that i can load the other Anti-virus with no progress, tried checking registry, the uninstaller tool from Mcafee whilst also trying to find any rogue items left.

Anyone else had this or got any ideas?

Have you run CCleaner? It has an uninstall tool that works well too.

    Reformat?
Should do it to boost your laptop's speed anyway.

Did run CCcleaner, but McAfee does not appear now in the uninstall list

Possibly if i can find no other way of getting rid of it.

It does appear a bit of overkill simply to remove anti-virus though

Just backup your files first. There's a great guide stickied in the dell forum.

I want to do the same thing in removing Mcafee from my new 1530m. Would it be better to use ccleaner to uninstall rather than do an uninstall through vista?
