So basically I dropped my year + 1/2 old M1530 on the carpet yesterday, it was closed and I was just holding to move to the lounge so it was pretty close to my kneecap.

I went to turn it on and 3/4 of the bottom part of the screen just displays white. Although funny patterns appear in this white section it stays white although sometimes when I log on to Vista the bottom toolbar will appear in the white part in completly the wrong place so it still appears to work.

I have opened the laptop to check the connections for the screen and touching any of them doesn't appear to make any difference.

    .....

Aswell as the screen problem after I have logged in a few mins later the HDD will turn off although it can be random and up to 8 mins. It sometimes turns back on but windows won't recover and usually hangs and sometimes bluescreens with a kernel error - cannot remember exact error but googled it and the error displayed was to do with the HDD being off whilst logged into windows.

However I am unsure whether it is the HDD actually broken. As now when I turn the PC the screen appears blank like nothings booting up. The power on button lights up for a second but then doesn't stay lite however the fan is still spinning.

    ...

I just checked on the DELL site and my warranty expired 07/02/2009
could I extend and upgrade the warranty to complete care - How much does this cost?

And then get it repaired/replaced. I wasn't that happy with the build qualiy of the laptop anyway as they have replaced the keyboard twice already and it had actually broken again last month.

Here is a picture of the laptop screen :

Yes, you can add Complete Care...but the fact you dropped your lappy before you had any type of Accidental Coverage...that would be the *wrong thing to do* ~ and constitutes fraud under Dell's standards.

You may have to explore other avenues to getting your 1530 repaired.

And, *ouch* those pictures look like your lappy hurts a bit.. :(
