    If your optical drive is an Optiarc, this firmware is probably for you.

    I read some posts about people having a problem with noisy optiarc drives.

    From the Dell Drivers and Download site;

    Additional Information
    Unbalance disc handling improvement (reduce speed) to improve acoustic noise performance.

    Hope this helps someone

    Wow great find. I had concluded the extra noise when ejecting was not a big deal to me. But if this new driver can decrease whatever kind of noise, then it's worth downloading. However, from your description above, it doesn't seem like the new driver has anything to do with ejection noise.

    BTW, Dell sent me a 2nd computer because I complained about grainyness in the 1920 x 1200 monitor. The new computer has a MATSH1TA slotload whereas the old computer has the Optiarc. Thus, I was able to compare both drives side by side. The MATSH1TA drive is much quieter during ejection. Don't know about any other differences since I don't watch DVD's on my computer very often and, when I do, I use only the most basic functions.
