I'm open to any option, USB or express card. I have an external mixer, so really all I need is the audio in! The onboard default sound sucks obviously so I figured look for a replacement :)

Thanks for any suggestions you guys can make.

I just got a Tascam Fireone - its a firewire card, i get a latency of about 19ms with it in Ableton and Cubase.

I got it as it has Midi inputs, two mono inputs (which can be paired) or you can switch one to accept a high impedence signal from a guitar. Pretty much everything I wanted :]

That's a fairly poor latency value to be honest. You should be able to get lower latency than that. My Echo Audiofire2 performs well at 5ms without a huge amount going on. I'd expect to have to notch it back a little as I stress the system more but wouldn't think I'd need to get anywhere near 19ms.

What size buffer are you using for that?

I haven't mucked around with it much - that was straight out of the box. Stupid dissertation project is taking up valuable music time!

128 or less than that - it's not hooked up at the mo for me to have a look.

Yeh - you should be able to get better latency than that - have a play the next time the Uni gives ya some time ;)
