    M1330 won't wake up

OK, let me just say I have read through these forums and many others regarding this type of issue.

I close the lid, screen turns off but m1330 doesn't go to sleep. The only way I can get the screen to come back is reboot. Now it does go to sleep fine and awaken the first time I try it but any subsequent sleep attempts just turn the screen off but it doesn't go to sleep. Also I have it set to turn off the screen after a certain amount of time to conserve power, most often than not it will not come back and I have to again reboot.

As I initially stated I have read many forums about this. Most people seem to think it is driver related but it is happening to me off all drivers. I have tried a bunch of different ones off the laptop video site and I have even tried going back to the original dell drivers but they all seem to do it.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

edit: Just did a clean reinstall of vista, installed all the drivers from the dell webpage, testing as I went. All was fine until I installed the nvidia drivers. Same thing again, goes to sleep the first time without a problem, any time after that it doesn't go into sleep when I close the lid but the screen turns off and I can't get it back on.

I have just changed all my sleep settings to hibernate and it fixes the lid close option. But does anyone have any advice regarding sleep?

Is it not a bug in Windows Vista? I believe it will be fixed in SP1 or there might be a hotfix, I am not sure.

IIRC, it is a nvidia driver issue.

Yeah I am leaning more towards a vista bug. As I have tried about 5 different nvidia drivers, including the dell released one.

Have you tried the two patches mentioned here?

They fix a number of issues but are not included in Windows update.

KB938194 did not work. i can confirm that the system does not wake up after upgrading drivers - original Dell drivers from CD worked initially during a fresh install

everything i have read points this to a Vista-nVidia problem. both are at fault, not one or the other it seems. i had this problem with my 1420 after using non-stock nVidia drivers; once i switched back to the stock driver my screen came back on on wake up.

Yeah, this happens to me too. I'll also find sometimes that things don't work (possibly after coming out of sleep). Like the USB ports, camera, brightness buttons, and maybe some other stuff just don't work anymore. When I go to restart Windows, it'll just get stuck on restarting forever. But if I just hold down power and reboot, all is 100% well once I'm back in Windows.

Yea, this does suck. No matter what I try, when I put my m1330 to sleep...it basically just turns off. The screen and all LED lights go off and no registered key press does anything. The only thing is to press the power button. When I press the power button, it shows the Dell Logo boot screen and says that the computer did not properly turn off and whether I would like to use safe mode. Such a bad situation in vista. There has got to be some fix for this.

Dell really needs to fix this... (however, you know what they'll say... please use the nVidia drivers from our web-site)

Not just Vista-nVidia. XP-nVidia, too, when it comes to the M1330. Even if you use the default Dell nVidia drivers, it happens.

I was having this same problem with my Vostro not coming out of sleep mode. I just reloaded the video driver from the Dell Driver CD. All is fine now.

Just tried downloading the 163.69 drivers from HERE and it says it can find no compatible hardware when you try and install. Any help on where to go to update my driver.

I have 1420 without nvidia, it does the same thing. I guess it's really a vista problem?

    Hi All,

I just got my XPS 1530 on Friday and I installed XP on it as per another thread on this site. Its all working great except for this standby/sleep issue.

Has anyone got a fix for it yet? I know if I call Dell tech support they are going to tell me to re-install Vista which is a last resort due to lack of time.

I found a thread on the Dell Forums which talked about a conflict between IE7 and some anti-virus but I don't have IE7 installed. I tried it anyway but made no difference. Love the machine but if this sleep issue isn't resolved then it's a real pain...as you all know.

    Thanks,

    Ally

I have the same sleep issue when closing the lid.

Did anyone manage to find a solution to this?

If you have Trend Micro anti-virus, try exiting it first and then try to sleep. If that works uninstall Trend Micro and find a different anti-virus s/w. After uninstalling Trend Micro, my sleep problem on my m1330 is fixed.

Any updates on this? What about hibernate? I use sleep all the time because I'm constantly on the run and this is extremely annoying.

Yes. There is a fix: Install SP1. It fixes sleep/hibernate issues. You may have an issue with the resolution changing upon wakeup, however. If you have this issue, it is easily fixed by disabling TMM. Here are microsoft's instructions for doing that:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945459/en-us

    Hope this helps.
