Hey guys, I just totally formatted my harddrive and re-installed Windows Vista Ultimate. I also installed all the recent drivers from the Dell website.

However now my notebboktends to shut down randomly all the time, so mush so that I can't run any diagnostiv tools or even try re-installaling Vista again.

I have tried running the notebook with and without the battery (to check the power supply) and and results are the same.

One symtom I must note that is that if I do manage to log in, the CPU monitor is almost always at 100% and thus tyhe computer runs very slow, even fior the lightest tasks.

Also I get the smae results in both Vista and Dell MediaDirect which implies that the cause is likely not spof****re based but hardware based?

Has anyone had these prblems or know how to fix it? Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated as I hate talking to Dell customer reps :(

    Thanks in advance,
    James

This sounds distinctly like a hardware problem. Most probably its a fault with the graphics card, or the motherboard in general. I suggest you contact XPS Tech Support and explain the situation. They will most likely send out a techy to check out your laptop and if need be replace the motherboard.

Hmmm this is embrassing, well the problem is solved worked it out by noticing that the computer stayed on longer after long periods of not trying to turn it on....

The CPU fans were not working ... all due to a small piece of dust preventing the fans from moving :D Nyways a quick cover removal and some heavy blowing and its working fine :D ...

Thanks for your suggstions guys, if I hadn't noticed the fans would have really been stumped.

Nice to know there's a system in place to stop out notebooks from melting :D
