I'm thinking of swapping my existing m1330 motherboard with Intel HD graphics mobo because the Nvidia graphics keeps frying. My warranty has expired but I would like to keep it running for a few more years.

Does anyone have the Dell Certified System Engineer training material XPS M1330? I've seen it on another thread but the link has expired. The "Ah-wee" link is also sketchy and full of malware.

Btw, has anyone done this themselves? I've seen the Dell technician work on my laptop before and it's a complicated job.

    Thanks

Here is the HMM for the M1330: Documentation

It's generally not any more difficult than disassembling any other laptop... in fact I think Dell generally does a good job of keeping screw sizes the same, etc.

You can indeed swap the Nvidia mobo with the Intel mobo, but you should get the Intel heatsink if you are going to do the swap.

    Thanks...I forgot about the heatsink.

I wonder what the total cost would be and whether it's worth it.

doubt it's worth it, you can nab a M1330 for approx ~300 now.... swapping MB's probably rounds out to that price.

On another note. Like commander said, taking apart dell's is something easy peasy, i'd say easier than a lot of other laptops.

What I do is take apart all the screws on the exterior, group them together, from there i open up the keyboard, and anything screws under the keyboard and around the top half of the laptop, i group them together. THEN I group all the screws to the MB and it's accessories together. This way you know how many screws go in each order that you take the laptop apart. GOOD LUCK! :)

Ya if you can get the Intel mobo for < $100, the heatsink is basically change, and it might be worth your while, but I basically couldn't find any reasonably priced Intel boards on eBay just now, so I don't know how plausible that is.
