I just reformatted my system because of it. I started off with my HD partitioned with 30 gb for the C:. After Sp1, office SP1, and programs, I was left with only about 5 gigs of free space. This was after I turned off restore, deleted files. So I decided I would go ahead and reformat to see if that cures the problem. I also decided to ditch the media direct that I had previously installed. It's useless.

Well, I did all that. All was well for the first 30 mins. The computer was blazing fast. Then, the dreaded 100% cpu popped up again. I've been monitoring the processes for about week b/c I really didn't want to start with a fresh install. However, it was/is very frustrating when the computer locks up.

    Anybody else have this problem?

What's taking up the 100% CPU in task manager?

IE will go up to 45% sometimes, but I can't figure it out. It will say 100%, but the processes wont add up to 100% from what I can gather. Dell just told me to uninstall Symantec 11 and to go from there.

I told him I did the Diagnostic test and it passed that. So I asked where do I go from here if uninstalling the symantec doesn't work. He says there is not much since my comp passed the diagnostic. *sigh. something is wrong. i Know that I've read symantec endpoint11 is a resource hog, but it shouldn't lock up my computer. Sometimes my computer will freeze for 5 minutes and all the windows will say, "not responding."

Is your CPU overheating by any chance? I would try monitoring the temps.

I forgot to mention that in this thread. I've been monitoring the CPU temps and they seem to be within range. About 60*c-70c

Talked to dell again today. I had been using my brother's XPS M1330 (same exact specs), and his runs soooo much cooler. 10* celsius cooler, but you can really feel it when you type. My computer feels really warm. It is also burning up underneath.

So, after speaking with the tech today who seemed more helpful than the guy last night, they will be replacing the heatsink, motherboard, and palmrest. I know there is something wrong. That Dell Diagnostics test aint worth a ****.

I hope this solves the problem.

They just replaced the heatsink. That was fast. Next day service. Seems to be all good now. Will check back if the problem persists.

Hey, did the hardware replacements fix your problems? I'm having the same exact issues with my m1330 - processor up to 100% all the time, but no particular processes seem to be causing it. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Which parts in particular did they send you? What did you have to go through for them to believe, in the end, it was a hardware issue? I always dread the time wasted talking to Dell tech support, though the outcome is typically good.

Was the replacement of your parts simple (for a techie, at least)?
