I had to have my power chord replaced as it was not charging well. By the end, I had to bend it a little just to get it to charge.

I got the new charger and it charges 'better' but it still seems loose in the port and often it just says A/C but not charging and I fear it will get worse once its on this path. I'm afraid that replacing that port that you plug in is a big procedure that could risk the health of my otherwise well working XPS 15.

I have the next day warranty but I'm concerned that what needs to be replaced is the entire motherboard rather than just that port (that was the case on an older Dell) and I'm fearful that I will get an inferior part.

I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on the situation.

It's a replaceable part, plug on a flylead that plugs into the motherboard, probably one of the least invasive jobs for the hacks they send out to do the repairs.

You can see it at the top right of the pic

Thanks a lot. Guess they realized it was expensive to have to replace the motherboard every time a part that easily gets out of whack breaks.

10 years ago virtually every laptop job I had was to resolder the DC jack, but like you say a £5 part over a £700 part and they all followed suit. This is also why it may seem a bit loose as its a floating jack, it has space to wiggle around so don't worry that the new one they fit acts the same apart from it will work after they swap it.
