Totally and uterlly pi$$ed off, not even had it a month and ive had nothing but problems, i paid the best part of £600, and it feels wasted.
Was in the middle of playing company of heroes, and it just switched off, and now it wont power up again, ive tried disconnecting the battery and power lead, and tried starting it up again and the power light stays on for about 2 seconds and just goes off, i disconnect the battery try to power up again, the multi media lights flash and power light stays on for 2 seconds and then goes off. DEAD as a dodo. feel like throwin it throu the window.
if i bought this from dell as reconditioned, am in the right mind to demand a new one for havin so many problems.

    cheers guys.

u told it 'just switched off'. was this a forced shutdown or a sudden turn off ?. did u experience oveheating during gaming sessions ?? Please give detailed information about your system configuration. if nothing of this works. consult dell manual to see how to remove the CMOS battery. try removing and replacing it (first try the same battery itself, and then with a new one)(u must have the same ones inside your dell media remote if u have one).

ok cool. try my CMOS battery step and lemme know of the developments. i hope that this will reset the bios and reboot the system properly. i forgot to mention in the last post that u need to pull out the CMOS battery and wait for about 1 minute before reinserting/replacing it

For me, it looks more like it just went off due to over heating... U might want to search around for what to do when laptop' shutdown due to overheating...

Not telling you directly about the CMOS location, but it kinda indirectly points to its 'possible' location... from the dell forums.

To be honest i just dont think this acceptable for a laptop of this value to incur such problems so soon, i think iam just gonna get in touch with Dell and push for a brand new laptop. what is there policy on this?

I had this happen on my IBM laptop. Chances are the heat cause the power unit where the plug goes into to melt or got lose. The tech open the laptop in front of me and showed me how the wires melted and was lose.

Lights would come on when pressing power, but nothing happen. Same as yours, and hopefully that is not the same problem. Luckily they replace the entire mobo for under warranty.

i spoke with a dell guy yesterday (for replacing my screen ) and he told that dell guarantee doesnt become void by dismantling the system urself (they usually provie detailed instructions in the manual to replace almost all parts of ur system). so y cant u try this little CMOS battery thing and just give it a go ??

Because its way too difficult to get to this CMOS thing, according to what I read around (which was not too many btw, hardly a handful of sites that mention about how to replace/remove CMOS in XPS M1530).. or may be I just didn't see any.. But I have been trying so much and the closes I could get was what I posted before.. and there was even another user who posted that the CMOS in the dell is like buried deep and so difficult to access (the other link here in NBR)

If it's one month old, don't try to repair it yourself. Just get dell to replace it or repair it.

I think you've been a victime of the nVidia Geforce GT8600. Those GPUs have tendency to overheat in particular on the Dell XPS 1330. Check the XPS 1330 sections to know more about the issues related to this GPU. One NBR member had his motherboard replaced 3 times by Dell while his laptop was still under warranty.

Realy don't bother with it let Dell do the job you've paid for through the warranty.

As natons says, i ahve paidd a hell alot of money for a laptop and dont think i should be wasting time dismantling it and repairing it myself, am just really annoyed as its not even a month old. I knew i should of got a Vaio.

I would try unplugging it completely and leave it for a while... say arnd 20 to 30 mins.. remove the AC power.. remove the battery.. just leave it and then connect it all up and see if you can start it back. Else try the CMOS thing.. remove it along with the AC and battery... for 5 or 10 mins and then put it all back, start up and see if it works. Cheers.... these are the common suggestions I have come across for similar issues... *cant think of anything else, of course other than calling Dell or configuring a Sony Vaio*... Good Luck and cheers.

Smudger, you are having the same symptoms as myself when one of my RAM sticks had failed, when you press the power button, the media lights flash but then nothing else happens, and the power light by the headphone jacks stays on?

I believe there are a wide range of things that this could be a problem with, as i myself had diagnosed the RAM to be defective, however dell sent a tech round to replace my motherboard... So i think it could be anything to do with the motherboard which is quite alot of things lol.

I think the best thing to do is contact dell, they will do a bit of troubleshooting over the phone, then send someone round to repair your system!

let us know how you get on!

PS. if you want to check its not a failed RAM stick, just remove one of them and try powering on with the remaining one in place, and then swap them over and try again...

if it powers on at all, the one that is not in your lappy is defective!

So, they are replacing a "refurbished" one with a "brand new". Did you get that in writing?

Hmm sounds iffy that they would replace a refurbished machine with a new one. Did you go through the process of putting it together piece by piece with the person you spoke with?

Well good for you, but to be honest, I haven't heard a lot about having a refurb replaced with a brand new... usually it was the other way, when someone has some issue and replacement was a refurb, as per their policy.

But anyways, as I said, good for you if you are getting a brand new :) Have fun and enjoy it.

well me new one has turned up today, and yes it is brand new, just one question thou, they still haven't picked up the old one, it was meant to be last friday but noone turned up, and noone has rang from dell or anything. does this normally happen, coz in a few weeks its gettin sold. i mean i dont wanna ring them up to tell em its still here just incase there has been a mistake somewhere in their system, and its actually been forgotten.
