By default, the brightness setting on my dell xps m1530 is set to max on AC. I prefer to set it 3 at pushes of the down button. But I whenever restart or when the screen turns off automatically after inactivity, it just resets back into the full brightness. Is there anyway to make it 'remember' the brightness that I set it to? My previous dell laptop didnt have this issue.

Boot up and enter into your bios and scroll down to monitor/screen and you cand adjust the setting here and make sure you save before you exit bios.
And/or run Mobility Center> Display brightness and you can make a custom setting for you display.

Also double check your OS's Power settings (look in the Control Panel).
