I was watching a video when the screen flickered and then turned off completely. The external monitor on VGA works fine though so I've concluded its the LCD that's failed.

The LCD panel shows up as "Unknown Device" in the BIOS with a resolution of 0x0. Windows can't detect it at all.

I've also run the LCD diagnostic by holding down the "D" button and got these results - YouTube - LCD Diagnostic Test

I wanted to confirm its the LCD that needs replacing or if its as cheap as replacing the inverter? As it seems the LCD does do something... Perhaps its a cable?

Got any UK sellers for the WUXGA panel?

Also my question was more do I need to replace the whole LCD or not?

It really depends. If it's CCFL backlit then the inverter is seperate. If it's LED then it doesn't have an inverter. I can't think of any UK sellers. Might want to try Ebay then.
