    I am unable to find a thread I read awhile ago that discussed the manufactures of the displays for the non-1080p display.
    In that thread it discussed the quality of the manufacturer's displays. I remember that it said the AUO was the poorest quality but I don't remember the other 2 manufacturers or which one had the highest quality. Sony or Philips maybe?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Philips = LG. It's LG-Philips.

    I believe AUO, Samsung, and LG-Philips were all the manufacturers found so far.

    Don't expect any of them to be "good" quality, because most 15.6" 1366x768 screens are junk. Don't buy the XPS unless you're getting the 1080p screen.

    The price I paid for this laptop was a steal. After 1 month I now have a dead pixel on the display but after an hour through the Dell online chat to transfer the ownership to me (it's a refurb) they are sending a technician to my house to replace it. This is 2 days after the initial call so I am happy.
    I am also fine with the display even though it is not a 1080p other than the dead pixel which I took the chance on since it's a refurb but again I paid a low price for a laptop with the options I wanted.
    I am going to order the 1080p screen and cable soon so that I have them while they are available so I can install it when the warranty is up. I'm an electronic technician by trade (in school for an Electrical Engineering degree now) so I'm ok with giving it a try.

    ...I just got a call from the technician to verify the appointment and asked him to use the Samsung display to replace this AUO. It may be no difference but we'll see and he said he has the AUO and Samsung in-stock so again, I'm happy so far. We'll see how the repair goes and if it holds up.

    UPDATE:
    The technician came to my house yesterday and replaced the display with an LG. There definitely is a noticeable difference between the AUO and LG display. The LG looks better, brighter and far less directional than the AUO.

    I am very happy with my Dell outlet experience so far after having my XPS for over a month now even though the display broke. It was a refurbed model and the repair was made very quickly. For all I know my daughter could have pushed the screen to hard thinking it works like my Ipad :confused:

    You don't have to wait until your warranty expires to replace the screen with 1080p. It doesn't void the warranty to replace the screen, Dell just won't cover anything relating to the 1080p LCD or the cable.

    Also, how's the contrast of the LG screen? Fill the screen with black, how dark does it look?

    I am also upgrading to 900p or 1080p real soon. The 720p screen is a crap!
