I have an XPS15, L501X. It's about 3 years old and has been problem free since purchased. This morning, for the first time, the keyboard stopped working and the lights wouldn't come on. Did a restart and still the same. So I shut the laptop down for a few minutes and rebooted. The keyboard has been functioning normally since.
Any ideas why this might have happened? A hiccup? Or a sign of a keyboard ready for the scrap heap?

    it could be the keyboard

could be the keyboard ribbon cable

either is fairly reasonably priced to replace.

I'm surprised to read that the price for a replacement keyboard would be reasonable. Is it a reasonable do-it-yourself job?
