Just ordered DELL XPS 15, Did I get charged more? (Dell Canada)
I just ordered Dell XPS 15 with 1080p screen and backlit keyboard.
Well, it was some promotion or something but with buying XPS laptop you get this for free, 320GB C2 2.5" PORTABLE-BLACK
Well, it shows that I did not get it for free, although the original price was $149 for the portable drive, I got charged $79.55, instead of giving it to me for free.
There was no option to remove that drive from the offer....
What is this? I tried calling but they are closed, and also online chat tells me to call them tomorrow morning.
Why are they forcing us to buy this drive, can someone please explain to me what this is?
-
I just configured another i3 XPS 15 without the portable drive and then did the upgrades to what I wanted and the total turned out to be the same as the one with the portable drive, so I guess I did not get charged more....

It isn't free, it is "ClickFree". They are giving you a discount, but not for free.
There is one link in which you could have bought it without the extra accessory, but it was a bit hidden in the xps 15 webpage (just that they don't get sued for forcing stuff to people I pressume, first laptop model to the left)
Dell XPS 15 Laptop Details | Dell Canada
You will have to wait for tomorrow to talk with someone or send an email now but they will still read it tomorrow. -
Yeah your right, my total was $1277 something. (including taxes)
If you go to the model on left and add 1080p screen, backlit keyboard, 500gb hard drive, the price comes out to be $1277 aswell.....
So isnt this free? I asked a week ago from the online chat and he told me it was free, but didnt sound too convincing..... -
ClickFree refers to the backup software already on the drive. Basically, you plug it in and it'll just automatically backup stuff you set it up to every time you plug it.

Just so everyone knows:
The offer on the weekly specials page (gone now):
AMD deals | Dell Canada
stated that if you ordered the xps 15 and 17 I believe you got a FREE 320gb backup drive. The same thing happened to my order in that it was charged for $70 odd dollars as well. I had to talk to the questionably knowledgeable people at Dell India who didn't even know about the special. After explaining it to them I was assured that my credit card would be refunded after the package has been picked up.
The most irritating issue is that the portable hdd shipped out from a separate location so now I have to go to the depot twice to pick it up and then again to pick up the XPS 15 which has been cancelled and re-ordered 3 times now. -
Oh, so I was charge $79.....
Will need to call tomorrow to get this fixed.
Well why cant they refund it right away? -
I talked to customer service they told me it was NOT FREE and it was $79 (discounted price), so I told them I dont want this drive and cancel the order for it, I just want the laptop.
Now hopefully the total price will be brought down as it has not yet been done. -
Customer service in Indian doesn't know what's going on. It was clearly stated on the website that it was free. I'd call them back and complain.
-
Well now its canceled, and I would rather keep it canceled so they dont tell me later that I bought the product at half price and give me the full refund for that.
-
Ya I hear you. Offering something for free then charging $80 for it is super dodgy!
