Hello, i`m new to this forum. I just received my XPS M1530 yesterday and have some questions. I think my system has a few cosmetic flaws but not sure since this is my first laptop. I noticed that the barrel hinges are not aligned and there is a very noticable gap on the right side but the left is flush. the speaker is lifted a little on the right bottom corner of it same side that the gap is on. Is this normal on the 1530? the remote has a little bump on it as if there were something under the decal. I have seen many unboxing videos on youtube and i did not get the leather manual/software book and xps logo laptop case. also when i plugged in the power cord while the laptop was off and i then unplugged it it gave me a black screen with alot of words on it and then took a while to boot up? just wanted to ask these questions to see if other people have the same problem and if it is even worth calling dell to complain. sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance for all your help.

You did pay too much for outdated technology.

And the deformities (though common on this XPS) shouldnt be there for a brand new one!!! I would return it asap

First, you are still within the 21 day period... So its your chance to go for a complete replacement, if you wished. So have this in mind, and go for it immediately if you are not happy with your system. And for the manufacturing flaws you seem to be having with your laptop, I would think about asking for a complete, new replacement!!!! (and may be you could bargain / demand / cuddle your way through to some nice upgrades too, if possible!!!)

Well, the hinges are usually aligned with some gap on either side.. and in your case, it looks like its not been made to sit properly... Are you having trouble opening and closing the lid? Do you hear any noise or anything? Is the lid brushing against other parts of the laptop when you are opening n closing the lid? you might want to call Dell and tell them this.

Considering the speaker is lifted a little, it sure looks like a manufacturing flaw. See if you can have an immediate onsite tech who can check if he can fix this defect or call Dell, asap. And no, its not normal, afaik!!!

The leather holder as well as the laptop case are accessories that come with the XPS, but there have been quiet a few reports that these days they are not being shipped, because 'dell has ran out of these accessories'. But still call Dell and ask at least for the laptop sleeve. Its very useful. Or demand for some kinda gift card or coupon. There is a high chance you might get one.

As for the power cord issue, can you please be a bit more specific and clear? There have been issue with the adapter not being recognised, and you have the option on screen to either press F1 to continue or others... So please confirm if this is what you see. If yes, then its a common problem out here with the M1530, with no sure fix available as of now (can link you to other existing threads on this issue in the next few posts!!!)

If its something else, it will be nice to know 'what are the words' you are seeing on the screen... And if the battery fully charged? (it must be!).. Also, when did this happen? The first time you powered your laptop on, after receiving it?

For finding out the display details, go to device manager, and click properties on the monitor > details tab > look under 'hardware ids'.. and check the sticky thread in the "Dell XPS" forum to know what monitor you have!!!

Cheers and have fun. That looks like a nice system :)

Thank you for the advice. Do you think they will send me a new one or send a tech with parts to repair it? It took 23 days to get here which was very frustrating.

You are still within the 21 day period. Ask for a new replacement. You are entitled to one.

Or if you think every other aspect of your laptop is fine, you could probably try to get in the onsite tech to visit your place and see if he can fix it.. I don't know.

I agree that you should return it. Don't ever feel that inferior product quality is "OK" just because it is common. Yep, you paid to much for that technology. Here's your chance to send it back for a full refund. Or get one that's at least in NEW condition. Keep us posted.

Dont tell them of the flaws. You're within 21 days of no Q asked return policy. You state 'Unsatisfied' and get a RMA # and you ship it back

    you get your full refund

And you order a brand new system yourself. thats it :D

Is the 21 days from the date the order was placed or the date I receieved it because just that gap alone is over 21 days.

    OMG Lol

The date printed ON your INVOICE = INSIDE THE BOX the packing SLIP

You should focus on calling CS# and asking THEM that and making them activate RMA process.. !!

I actually called a few days after i placed my order to upgrade to the led screen for $75 but the sales rep told me that she would have to cancell my order, do it all over again and I would not get the same deal (blue-ray player read write) which i will probabaly never use cause I have no blue-ray movies. I really regret not coming here first before purchasing. does anyone know when the M1530 is getting replaced, the main reason I got it is for the 12 months no interest so i can take my time paying for it but now i might just return it and get the new MACBOOK when it comes out on the 14th. I really do like my xps but like most people I am picky about cosmetic flaws especially a pricey item that I will be making payments on.

There are *rumors* abound about the impending release of the new line. Being that, nothing is set in stone...

So, you havent called for the replacement, because of this? Remember, you have that limited time frame to return for refund, or replacement, ;) :)

Oh, the 12 months interest free on the DPA for the XPS's...that always has a expiration date...It will expire one day, and the financing will be available again w/in a few days. It will never *go away* completely for the XPS's. :)

I think now you just need to decide about what you really want to do. :)

I totally understand your concern! I enjoy my 1530 very much BTW ;) :)

Its a great lappy! Don't know if that helps or not! :)

I really do like it but most people have told me I over did it for what i`m using it for which is just web browsing and some music downloads but I love the way it looks. and even though i dont know what type of screen I have it looks great to me, but i`m a newbie. I havent called them yet but as soon as i get out of work I will. I work for at&t and its been crazy today!

Update: I called DELL to speak to my sales rep about the problems on my laptop but of course iI did not get to speak to her and instead was transfered to someone else on her team (team maverick) I explained the situation and was then trasfered to another dept. I again had to explain the situation all over again, I was put on hold a few times and was then told they are shipping me a new replacement within 8 days and that there would be a prepaid shipping label in the new box to send the first unit back. I was on the phone for about 15 min. and was overall impressed with their service. I also complained about not receiving the leather book and sleeve but she said she could not help me with that because it was not on the invoice and they only do like for like exchanges I told her to please make sure there are no cosmetic flaws on the new one or I will return it and cancell my order. A few of you here said I paid too much for outdated technology but I have looked around for comparable laptops and they are all $1300 to 1700 and do not have blue-ray players like mine, I paid $1399 plus tax. when you guys say outdated do you mean the components or the xps series itself because I did opt for some of the higher components. I will list the specs below again.

XPS M1530 MIDNIGHT BLUE (I LOVE THE COLOR I GOT THE MATCHING V450)
