Recently heard about the faulty 8400's chips on several laptops including the M1330 so I decided to run ATI tool and benchmark to check temps on my 8400m GS w/ latest drivers in addition I used HWMonitor and temps went up as high as 100 Celsius and didnt wish to continue the test :( which now renders my laptop useless for gaming. Now what

call Dell and said that you got overheat problem. they fix it for you.I assume it's under warranty.
dont waste money on a laptop cooler. imo, it's a waste. if I have a laptop to carry around, i dont want to take a laptop cooler with it.

How exactly do I check temps? My laptop seems to be running a little hot compared to other laptops I used. Don't know if its normal.

Forgive my ignorance but how do I go about testing this?

I've played a few games and saw my temps go up to 95 C or so.

3DMark06... get the free version and run it(takes some time, and it stresses the GPU/CPU).... then check the peak temperature at HWMonitor...

my 8400 peaks at 104 if i play crysis(all settings low) for an extended period of time (i already wedge the back of the laptop up using some clips)

If your Dell XPS M1330 Notebook has nVidia GeForce 8400M GS Video Card, you need a Copper Mod for it. Check the link for various free temperature monitoring utilities.
