Dell graciously offered, well, I graciously convinced them to give me a "new" laptop as I had a string of really bad repairs on my M1210. How do I tell if it's a "new" system or "refurb". Btw, it's arriving tomorrow !

The only thing that looks a bit odd there is the processor...but then again that might be the cheapest option in selection of processors

When it comes, if it has a big green refurb sticker on the bottom, it's a refurb. Last I check that was all dell gave as replacement systems.

That was my first thought as well but should more than suffice for basic surfing, word processing. So, is the only way to tell if it's a "refurb" to look on the bottom of the laptop? Will it marked as such?

Hep- ha ha We posted simultaneously - thanks!

Your old CPU was better, should fight them and I am sure they will give you a T7500! I got a system replaced that had a T7300, they wanted to lower me to T7250, I said no way, they said okay and next thing I know, it's a T7500.

    Hey!

This is either a good idea or a bad idea...as I don't know what type of answer you will get....But, why don't you call Dell, give them some information..and ask them point blank..whether this is considered new or is it defined as a *refurbished* notebook. It doesn't hurt to try.

Once you receive your 1330 look over the outside of the box carefully, to see if it indicates with a sticker *refurbished*...Then, look carefully over the contents on the inside for any other clues, as well as turning over the 1330 and looking on the bottom. ;)

Also...your paperwork inside the box, may also have something *indicative* :)

I may have repeated some of the answers you may have already received..but my typing is starting to slow down this evening! ;) :)

    Hope this helps! :D

    Cin ;) :)

Its probably going to be a refurb I just got a m1330 to replace my m1210 after a few motherboard swaps. Besides the processor looks like a pretty good exchange. I had a T7400 on my m1210 and I talked them into giving me a T9300 in m1330. & you should ask them about your battery I don't know if you purchased your m1210 with the 9 cell. But i see they sending you a 6 cell. And atleast your getting the remote because mines didnt come with it and I am fighting with text support to get one. because mines came with the cd and cd case and a dell bluetooth mouse. But you will love the LED. Even though it only 1in screen difference it makes the m1210 look so small enjoy your new system.

While I was waiting for DHL pkg to arrive (any minute now) I called Dell and essentially wasted 45 mins as after being transferred 3x, they wouldn't budge on the processor. Best they could do is swap out the battery for me to 9 cell.

Oish. Sorry they wouldn't *budge* on the processor for you.. :(

However; you will like the 9 cell batt! ;) :) It's elevation, and ventilation it provides is really, rather nice! And, works great when your using your notebook on your lappy! ;) :)

Let us know how it's going once it arrives...and you have *owned* it ;) :)

    Cin ;) :)

How can they get away with giving someone a worse CPU? Granted they're not THAT different, but shouldn't be legal.

Well, I emailed the case mgr as the guy on the phone was trying to feed me "baloney". 1st, he said "oh, the New processor is way better as it is a Core2Duo and I was like "uh, my older was one ALSO a Core2Duo" at which point he put me on hold for 5 mins only to still argue that "oh, this processor is waaay better." I will see what the mgr says. Found a great chart in wikipedia:
    Merom-2M Core 2 Duo ULV U7500, U7600, U7700 65 nm 2 1.06, 1.2, 1.33 GHz 533 MT/s 2 MiB

    T5270, T5470, T7100, T7250 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 GHz 800 MT/s
    Merom Core 2 Duo LV L7200, L7400 65 nm 2 1.33, 1.5 GHz 667 MT/s 4 MiB

Just tell them that you don't want that CPU, you want a T7200. They don't have T7200's anymore, so they will have to pick something that you will accept.

Well, it arrived and it does "appear" NEW - No REFURB Stickers anywhere. But I did not power it ON as I'm waiting to hear from the mgr...bummer, as otherwise, it looks Great but yeah, I will sorely regret having an inferior processor by Day 2.

Actually, looking at the specs it looks like a big upgrade overall. You're getting a huge bump in the screen and GPU, for just a minor loss on the CPU. IMO they still should have given you an equivalent CPU, but I'd still trade that first system for the new one any day, if that's what you end up with.

Maybe you are right. I am wondering if this is ALL "much ado about nothing"...I will see what the mgr says but yeah, I do agree, overall, it's a Great System so I might just swap out the batteries and call it a (good) day.

Mgr still hasn't emailed me back and of course, I couldn't resist opening it. So far, I am impressed ! NO visible flaws or whine. I read so much about its poor build quality but mine looks top-notch. I might use my energy into getting them to give me another 9-cell battery so I can have one of each vs new processor :)

Well i would call back about the cpu because m1210 had the T7400 and my m1330 came with the T7500 but i heard about the new processors having less heat issues and better battery life. So I simply called up xps tech department and explained to them when i bout my m1210 i had the 2nd best cpu available and wanted to know I could get the 2nd best available now. After about 10 mins of being on hold with him talking to the supervisor. The supervisor came on the line and offered me either the T8300 or the T9300 processor. So they will work with you if you get the right rep but it could also be I had to wait 6 wks for my system because they tried to order me a m1210 again and the order was canceled after 4 wks then a order for a m1330 was placed.

Post-note: I decided to keep the system although they are swapping out the batteries for me. Yeah, the processor isn't the best but it is plenty GOOD plus 3 GB Ram according to the rep, should more than make up for the 2MB vs 4 MB cache. It is otherwise seemingly Perfect - No CPU Whine, no unlevel hinges or big gaps, no grainy screen, namely all the things I was afraid of. So....I am actually very content. I will have to change my sig now...thanks for all the advice and feedback though.

RAM really has no bearing on cache on the CPU (and RAM's dirt cheap, even on laptops). But that said, the CPU's only slightly slower and everything else is the same or much better (I'd gladly pay hundreds more just for that better screen, and the GPU's probably something like twice as good).

Anyway glad to hear it's doing okay!
