Hi im thinking of getting an xps1330, and due to the fact of the 8400GS overheating problems and also since i very rarely game, i am thinking of going for the x3100. This will also give me more battery life and less temperatures i understand.

However, my main concern has to do with how does this chip cope with 2D apps, Aero performance, and this sort of stuff. I dont plan on doing anything very graphicly intense but i would like everything on my "desktop" screen to work flawylessly (movie watching, flash web pages, etc)

    any inputs?

It's fully Aero certified, it won't have any problem with that. I can't think of any particular 2D stuff it wouldn't like unless you plan on heavy photoshop and movie editing (and I mean HEAVY) it shouldn't bog down. Movies should be fine, right up to HD. I have an age old GMA900 in my old laptop and I can coax that to play HD content under XP so the much updated X3100 should have no problems.

I have a Dell XPS M1330 with GMAX3100 and it works just fine with Aero. No problems whatsoever. HD Movies work without a hitch and flash, psh ... it works no problems.

Just remember to get atleast 2GB of RAM (most Dells come with this standard) and Vista should run without too many hiccups, esp. with Service Pack I.
