    The CPU is in a socket, according to the service guide. And Intel have said that IB will be backward compatible. Looks like it's a year away though?

    Thanks for the response. Have you know which socket it is? Or anywebsites that show ?
    Also it would be a really nice upgrade because IB will have 20 percent improvement over SB. :)

    It is backward compatible but you need to take into account TDP and the chipset which goes along with it though. I have managed to upgrade an Acer with p6100 to core i5 520M only to find out that the chipset is one step behind and the machine overheated...

    Don't know what socket it is, no. I guess it must be FCPGA988, because the other package that SB processors come in is FCBGA, which wouldn't be socketed.

    Good point about the TDP. At least SB to IB is a die shrink and enhancement of the same architecture, rather than different architecture.

    The articles I read said that Intel have announced that IB will be compatible with Cougar Point and Panther Point...
