    Hey everyone,

    A few months ago I had to replace my lcd screen. I purchased an upgraded screen (Samsung WUXGA) that came with an inverter and installed it myself. The installation was very easy and did not run into any problems. I couple days ago my lcd screen all of a sudden went black. So now every time I try to turn on my computer everything starts to run except for my screen. My initial though was that something came loose. I then took everything apart and redid the installation. Re installing did not fix the problem. I am wondering If this could be an inverter problem or lcd problem. I am out of warranty and I would much rather pay for a new inverter than an LCD. What do you think?

    Also, I noticed that before my screen when black, when I turned on my computer it asked for me to reseat my hard drive for some reason. I think I was running out of HD space. That cant be a possible problem for the LCD can it?

    It could be the LCD, or it could be a bad GPU or motherboard, or BIOS, etc. We need more information, what model laptop, what GPU, RAM, CPU, etc.

    Try;

    Hooking up externally to rule out motherboard.

    If that works, reseat RAM/HDD

    Then replace with known good RAM.

    If worst comes to worse, replace the inverter first, cheaper (~45-50 USD). If you have a defective LCD, up to you if you want to replace it.

    I tried hooking my laptop up to my TV and another desktop monitor via USB and HDMI and still nothing.

    Possibly a bad motherboard. Not surprised as the M1530 was plagued with the bad Nvidia chips, could be Dell gave you a refurbished motherboard (they have every right with the warranty). You can get it replaced for like 130-150 these days.

    That's what I assumed when you listed your problem, but I wanted you to confirm it first. The 8400/8600 chips from Nvidia were all defective and tend to fail early. Dell should replace your motherboard/GPU, even if your laptop is out of warranty, as an ongoing lawsuit against Nvidia is forcing them to repair/replace laptops with defective GPUs. Give Dell warranty a call and see what they say. Also, read around this board for threads regarding the defective GPUs, there's lots of information about your problem here.
