    Hi all,

Hope I'm not being stupid here but I've got a bit of a problem. I wiped and re-installed my shiney new L502X installed all the drivers (no device as 'unknown'). Everything is fully patched but when I launch IE 9 64-bit is immediately crashes but 32-bit is ok.

I have a horrible feeling it's something to do with video drivers but I can't think why i'm thinking this. Every driver etc is from Dell EXCEPT nVidia driver which is nVidia 270 from laptopvideo2go.com with modified INF.

If anyone has any idea what they hell I'm on about, please do help me out if you can...many thanks chaps!

    Top man! (or woman...sorry!)

How? It crashes as soon as I open IE 9 64-bit. Or is doing it in 32-bit IE sufficient? I'll give it ago it's just I'm at work and would be nice to get my plan of action right before I go home to lay on the laptop :)

I would install adobe flash player 32bit. You will have to open IE 64 on a page that doesnt have any flash items or just uninstall the flash 64 bit you have installed. Get the most recent flash player..

I am seeing this as well. 32 bit ie 9 is okay. 64 bit ie 9 when started just crashes. I checked the noaddons and software rendering recommended at Internet Explorer 9 window crashes on start-up and/or while - Microsoft Answers . They did not help.

I suspect the issue may be ie9 related. Crash indicates an issue with ole32.dll

I will not worry about this as 32-bit ie 9 works fine for me.

I suspect this is an issue on a lot of machines, but nobody uses 64-bit ie 9

64bit IE 9 is not a good release .. and is based on old non optimized code.
32bit IE 9 is all new code and runs much better than the 64bit .

MS has even said this somewhere , but don't have time to dig up a link atm.

Have you tried moving to another browser, like Firefox, Opera, or Chrome?

Other browsers are fine just IE 9 64-bit...thinking it's the browser and not my specific laptop now..oh well..i'm sure they'll iron the bugs in due course.

Thanks for all the info guys!

    add -extoff
to the iexplore.exe, this will load it without addons, and it will determine if an addon is causing your crashing.

I could only update Flash player in 32bit IE as the 64bit one crashes immediately - disabled all addons.

This still didn't work. I'll try do the Optimus thing later today. Thank you

There is a bug concerning flash and Nvidia drivers. Get the latest of both, mine is fine now.

Can anyone confirm that they are also having these problems with IE and the L502X:

    * IE 64 bit crashing loop
    * IE 32 bit no Jump List or InPrivate Browser option from IE Start Menu/Taskbar?

I read about this bug too. IE9 32bit was crashing quite a bit and I disabled the GPU use in the IE9 options and it seemed more stable. As for 64bit IE9, that product just seems to be work in progress

I've switched back to Chrome now though, I love this browser :D

    Thanks andyguk,

I still have the issue with 64-bit, the 32 Jump List seems okay now. I am not sure why/how, but there you are. Anecdotally, there were two updates to Adobe products and then the 32 bit was all good.
