    hi guys

I'm wanting to install Windows from scratch so I can start afresh. The question is, does anyone have, or can anyone point me in the direction of, a definitive guide to what drivers/utilities I need to install for the L702x and in what order? This is where I'm at so far,

    • I have a Windows OS Reinstallation DVD from Dell
    • I've downloaded all the drivers for the L702x from the Dell website (I probably won't need all of them)
    • I've downloaded all the software (PowerDVD etc) from the 'My Dell Downloads' website

so I'm ready to go but just need some pointers as to what to install and when :D

    cheers
    Andy

Have you got the other dvd that came with the l702x with all the drivers on? If you run the autorun it should launch an app with a list of what drivers your system requires.
I basically went down that list installing them one by one.
Most important is to get the wifi driver and then at least you can get online to download the drivers you require.

Driver order doesn't really create any problems as long as you have them on hand. Sometimes some things won't work if other drivers aren't installed first, but since you have them all at hand, it doesn't really matter. If you didn't have them, then you would be in a pickle if the chipset drivers were necessary for the network cards to work, however...that is not an issue with this laptop. General rule of thumb order is:

    Chipset (Motherboard stuff, usb 3.0)
    Network (wifi and onboard nic)

then any other drivers in no particular order (video, audio)...although, if you have 3d, you might want to install the video drivers before the 3d usb controller driver.

Don't forget to install the dell quickset app to get your touch sensitive buttons at the top working. A couple of them won't work if you don't install that.

hey thanks :) I used to have a sequence I followed religiously with my Vaio and just wondered if there was a sequence with XPS.

Ok I will have a go and get back if I run into any problems
