When installing you should be able to load drivers from a floppy drive. If that's not an option, you could slipstream them using nLite.

However, that said, I'm unaware of XP having any problems with SATA drives despite incorrectly registering the size - Which is fixed when you install SP2, you can then use the Disk Manager to format the unformatted space and add it to your C: Partition.

Atleast, that's what I've done on my desktop computers, it could be different for laptops, but I couldn't imagine why.

No, XP has very few SATA drivers. 99% of drives will not install native, you will have to use nLite as RandomSuffix said.

Is it possible to add the SATA drivers from a USB memory stick instead of a floppy?
Or use a USB floppy drive to add them?

There are also Dell XP Pro SP2 images available on the internet that include the SATA drivers. Theres nothing wrong with using someone elses CD as long as you have an XP CD-key on the computer. PM me if ur having trouble finding one, but my server is quite slow.
