How much would I get for the 1530 in my sig? It's in excellent condition, and comes with a 9 cell battery, and all the manuals e.t.c Standard warranty is on it. Purchase price £945. Would be selling in the UK. 298 days left on warranty.

I could take some pictures tonight, although I would have to upload them tomorrow.

I'm selling it because I've realised that I don't actually need a notebook. The only time I would use the portability feature would be for holidays, and you don't go on holiday to play games!

I'm going to buy a desktop instead for 2 reasons:

    More bang for buck

    Upgradability

Don't get me wrong, the M1530 is a great machine, just not what I need.

Really? How about after you've factored in the £300 you're likely to drop on selling a 2-month old laptop?

That £700 computer is now pushing £1000. Still thinking you'll get more bang for the buck?

Not trying to dissuade you, but it's always easy to see the ideals of the choices we didn't make. It's much harder for us to see the disadvantages of the decisions we feel we need to make to take advantage of the choice we wish we had made.

If that makes any sense whatsoever. :)

I have to say ... great advice. You must be willing to take the hit when you sell items such as this. Some people are more willing than others to take such a loss on technological items such as these, but for me... selling it after ownership of only 2-3 months seems a little fast.

The previous notebook I had before this one, a cheap-o Gateway MT3418 with AMD chip, was a great little machine. But I sold it after owning it roughly 6 months .... the keyboard was just awful.

I love my "new" (had it a little while now) Dell M1330. Great size, great portability. Just need to get a new battery for it. :(

Been there, done that, felt the pain!

I bought a Sony Vaio a few years ago for £2100! Then I started gaming a lot and it was too slow, so I sold it a few months later for £1100! A £1000 loss...it nearly broke my heart.

But I was so happy to have desktop performance again.

Now, after a couple of years the pendulum swings back the other way, and mobility is more important that perf. m1530 here I come. :)

Everyone has their own agenda,I buy new laptops all the time, and sell them on ebay within a few weeks/months at a small loss just so I can try out various manufacturers products. Most people would think it foolish,I have learned alot from the experience, and the people that buy my "used" laptops are very happy to get such a clean machine for a reduced price.

^Very true. But one has to be in a position to "switch boats" from one top of the line machine to another, which generally means swapping from manufacturer to manufacturer.

It isn't foolish; well-planned moves can cost less overall than the depreciation of a single machine over the entire year. But it takes good decisions to come out of it a winner.

But for the system quoted in the original post - it's difficult to get an accurate price for a new-build, because the UK site doesn't list that screen, just WXGA. But £730 delivered would get you a T7250 with 2gb, 250gb, 8600GT and the 9-cell battery. £100 off if they went with the standard battery...

£730 for a brand new machine means like-for-like, the new machine has already dropped £200.

Get it wrong when swapping boats, and any potential savings for the whole year can be easily wiped-out in one swoop.

Hmm you will take quite a huge loss on the £945 you spent on it OP, I just bought a 1530 for £658 with the same spec in everything but the processor, which is a T9300, it would have probably been about £550 or less with the same processor you got. Although mine is black rather than red, that would realistic only add ~£50 to it's value at most I'd say. So you're looking at around £500, since people can get a brand new one from dell with higher spec for not very much more than that. Though you could strike lucky and find a willing buyer for more than that if they arent big on computers.

I'd suggest just sticking with it, you may come around to liking it again.

I've read all the comments, thanks for posting guys.

I think I'll see if there is anyone remotely interested in buying it, and see how much the want to give me. If it's too low, then I'll tell them to forget it and keep the notebook.

It'll just stay on my desk :)

I'll consider selling it again in about 6 months ( I had my last laptop for 8, mind you it was an Acer :p)

And £100 for a BATTERY? I got it for £20!!

I'm going on a city break until Wednesday, hope I'll find in internet connection there though. Don't think I'm ignoring you if I can't get on to post.
