...I have to say, the built-in speakers have to be the **WORST** I have ever heard in any laptop I have owned. Seriously... Dell, could you have spent an extra few $$$ and put something a little better in there? JEEZ.

I think the speaker in my Radar Detector is higher quality...

TBH, I don't think they are all that bad... and I personally think, in fact they are nice though they are a bit tinny... but they are pretty nice and I have no problems with the speakers.. and anyways I dont think its sensible to expect a laptop speaker to churn out a dolby home theater like sound....

yea it sucks to deal with that, but u can always invest in some usb powered speakers or some headphones to fill the void =)

    hope that helps

Hey, sorry you feel that way about the speakers. :(

I don't have any prob's, nor have I run into any prob's with mine on my 1530.

You have other choices if you are that dissapointed in the speakers ;)

How is everything else running on your 1530, other than that????

    Cin ;) :)

fonduekid - I am a realist... I don't expect them to sound like my home theater system. However - they are definitely the worst of any of the Dell's I have owned. I have had four different Dell laptops myself, in addition to all the different ones I have at the office (I am an I.T. manager), and these are definitely the worst. Tinny is an understatement.

Rickimusha - I already have a set of powered ones on my desktop. It's not convenient to carry them around in my laptop bag though... :)

Cin' - I really like the laptop. In fact, it's probably the best laptop I have owned. Of course, that kind of makes sense, since technology keeps getting better. I would say that overall, I like this one as much as I liked my Toshiba Tecra (back in 1996). The Tecra was a pretty nice laptop for it's time. This laptop is the first machine I have used with SSD. I really do see them taking over, especially in the laptop side of the market. I am pretty hard on my laptops, and my last Dell (D800) burned through 3 7200 rpm hard drives during it's 4 years. I am hoping that SSD proves tougher than I am. :)

    Hello Jim!
I'm glad you like the 1530 (minus the prob w/the speakers) ;) :) You have had a few lappy's! :)

I hope you don't *burn* thru this one to quickly! :p  :D LOL

How are you planning on accomodating for the speaker problem?? ;) :)

    Cin ;) :)

JWKramer - well, to each his own... you are probably right compared to other dells but this one ain't that bad, really... ;) ;) :) I mean, I am a music freak too... and I prefer the best sound possible to fall into my ears.. and I was apprehensive about the laptop speakers at first.. but then when I got this, I figured out they aren't as bad as I read around from some posts :) Anyway, opinions vary.. :) At least u already have an external speaker.. and for carrying around there are lots of cool earphones available which u may wanna try out.. ;) No?

Cin' - I'll just live with them. I use this mainly for business, so it's not that big of a deal. It is, however, nice to listen to an MP3 or two occasionally. I suppose I will just have to pick up some buds for that.

I'm with the OP, I can't stand the speakers. Luckily, I bought some Creative Speakers with mine, which are lovely and millions of times better than the built in speakers.

Why is the sound so low......I mean I put the sound up to 100 and it is like level 30 on any of my other computers including my Dell M170.......Plus whenever I listen to music in Media Player the sound is all over the place....Loud to soft loud to soft loud to soft.....If I go to You Tube and listen to a music video everything is level.....I mean I cant even hear the tone when you hit the speaker in the bottom left until I hit fifty and I can barely hear it......

I must admit, I'd rather have the speakers from my old E1505, then these, there crappy to say the least, I guess dell wanted it out quick and didn't think about the speaker, mine came with some good earbuds...

i don't mind my speakers, i've actually had someone compliment the sound of my speakers! that person owned an asus haha.

luckily you can plug in a 5.1 speaker set into the m1530.

I don't mind about the speakers... I keep the sound off at work (to avoid embarassing MSN beeps and others), and use good headphones for gaming...

What really annoys me is the slow-responsive volume control.... I'd rather have an instant-action ugly-looking analogic dial, than these really slow cool-looking touch buttons...

No room in that frame for good open-air speaker design, so the bigger your laptop the better it gets, the m1730 speakers are great for laptop ones, but are no match for my ATH-ad700 headphones from audiotechnica and my bose companion 3 series 2 speakers, get a good pair of headphones youll be fine, check out newegg. ATH costed 110 flat and you can get steelseries icemats for 75 now.
