I've had very bad experiences with the hinge on Dell laptops. Just about everyone of them, with the exception of my XPS M1330 which uses a different hinge design, becomes very lose and wobbles after a year of use.

I know it's a bit early to tell for the XPS 14 since it's fairly new...but how is the construction on the hinge? It looks like the standard dell hinge design that are prone to wobble after a year of use. But perhaps the construction or feel is more sturdy.

I touched the Inspiron hinge at bestbuy and was far from impressed. It felt very springy and fragile.

Can't say for certain what it's going to be like in a year but it feels very stable to me. After having an m11x-r1 and m11x-r2 I know what a weak hinge looks and feels like and this is nothing like that. I have a 2 year old daughter and 6 year old son who ocassionally think they can open "dad's laptop" anyway they want and can be quite rough sometimes and this hasn't so much as loosened, creaked, groaned, etc so I think you're probably good with it. If you're a little worried about it the best thing you can do is get the accidental damage warranty when you buy it, if you purchase the laptop over the phone you can typically get the accidental coverage for an extra $50-100 per year.
