    Hi,

I don't play games or anything like that so how can I test my GPU (and CPU?) to make sure it's not defective? What are considered abnormal temperatures?

Unfortunately, I'm already past the 21 days return period but if I find abnormally high temps is there anything I can do about it?

you can use HWmonitor to monitor your temps..
and do the dmc4 stress test.

HWmonitor should be a good program that'll measure your GPU/CPU/HD temps.
if u wanna make sure the readings are correct, u could also download: rivatuner for GPU/FPS measurements & speedfan for CPU/HD temps.

benchmark tests will take yur system thru a variety of tests to stress yur CPU and GPU. the basic versions are free to use. congrats on yur purchase and i got my fingers crossed for ya. :D

From what I understand about the GPU issue, it's not about high temps. It's that a defect in the die will cause it to weaken and ultimately fail over a long period of time due to repeated temperature fluctuations. Just "stressing" the GPU for a short time won't tell you a thing about that.

This is how I stress test my system. There is one thing you have to take into account when comparing stress testing on a workstation compared to a laptop and that is the fact that the CPU and the GPU share the same copper and fan.

So if you really want to stress your system, you have to stress both at the same time.

I do this by using ATI-Tool and scanning for artefacts and Prime95 were you do the maximum heat stress test. Run both of those at the same time and you will torture testing your system.

HWMonitor is a great program to see the temperatures, use that aswell.

I could list my temperatures, but I have replaced the thermal past in my 1530. So it wouldn't be much help, but they are:

    Component Min Avg Max (degrees)
    CPU 40 50 72
    GPU 57 77 80

These are from idle and stress testing.

but at least u'll know that ur GPU runs well and wont cause problems in the shortterm because of a misaligned heat sink

test until ur GPU burns up :p

just run it for some time(i would say at least 30 minutes) and check ur temps

I usually run it for around 15 mins, full screen and I see my temp' are stable by then... please check my post in the A09 Bios M1530 temperature thread > http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3773878&postcount=83

And I dont really know if there is a big differnece between full screen n normal window mode.. But sometimes it did seem to make a slight difference in temp... try it out. :) Nothing will happen. :)

I ran the RTHDRIBL thing for 25-30 minutes at full screen w/ the default config (just ran it without touching/modifying anything) and got these:

Are these temps normal? This is with the LED screen, 6 cell battery, 250gb/5400rpm hard drive, a09 bios, and t8300 processor

Should I run Orthos and ATI Tool too?

    yur temps look great.

as long as u dont see 90c+ under full load, u shouldn't be too worried
