    Hi gals and guys,

1st time - Around 2 weeks back - My Motherboard, DVD burner and Palmrest was replaced

2nd time - 1 week back - Palmrest was again replaced

3rd time - This time - They said that they will replace Palmrest, Motherboard, LCD, Power Adapter..

I really cant live with this...almost after every replacements my laptop is becoming ugly and ugly...

I want to get my SXPS 1640 replaced/exchanged...

How do yo guys convince them? Is there any magical phrase that works?..lol

    Thanks

    1. Why is the Palm Rest being replaced? Is each replacement being damaged by the tech upon install?

    2. Why is the Motherboard being replaced?

It would be helpful if you posted the symptoms. People here can provide feedback but we need to know a bit more to do this. Just a heads-up, there are no magical phrases... it has to be justified. ;) I'm not saying its not, but let us know whats going on and we'll see if you have any ammo....

    Ok :) Thanks

It was replaced 1st and 2nd time because:

Suppose if I open notepad or I type anything, then after typing a line or two, cursor goes back to the first or 2nd line or somewhere else in the screen. Tech tried reducing sensitivity and many other tweaks, in the end he replaced palmrest.

I am still having this problem :(

Motherboard was replaced first because whenever I was using LAN or WIFI or bluetooth, my laptop was getting locked up.

Now, they will again replacing palmrest and MB and adapater, because I can feel a strong electric charge one corners and on touchpad. I am even using 3 PIN adapter.

They will be replacing LCD this time, because the technician who came 2nd time made scratches on LCD.

    Thanks

    Couple of things -

First, based off your post I think you have enough ammo to ask/demand a system replacement if the next tech visit which you mentioned is already in process fails to correct the issue with the cursor jumping. This problem with being shocked is an obvious no no and there should be no reason why it isn't replaced if the next motherboard/power adapter switch out does not correct it. Most likely a chassis issue contacting the motherboard somewhere. In either case, your request/demand for system replacement is based on 2 attempts to resolve the issue and you are tired of sustaining injury (being shocked) and this is not safe.

Now on the cursor issue, its up to you if you want to try to fix it as I have an idea... ;)

    Two questions:

    1. Do you have Dell MediaDirect installed?
    2. Are you familiar with the process on enabling/disabling startup items?

If the answer is yes to both questions, check your startup items and see if you have PCMService.exe (component of Dell MediaDirect) set to run at startup. If so, disable it and reboot. See if that works. PCMService.exe can and has (from v3.5 to current) produced problems in the with erratic typing and mouse behavior.

    Thanks :)

I will wait for this 3rd visit, if it doesn't correct it, I will call them and tell them that still problem isnt solved and I am tired f sustaining injury (being shocked) and this is not safe.

I dont have MediaDirect installed, right now, I am on Win 7 and I cant find that software.

I checked and there was no startup item called PCMService.exe

Dude, there is a feature in the touchpad settings that turns the touchpad off while typing. Turn that on, you are probably touching the touchpad while you type and this is what makes the cursor jump. I used to have that problem until I turned this feature on
