When I had my 1645, I was really happy with it. Decent performance from both CPU and GPU, and very good speakers. I only had the WLED screen and was very happy with it, but I would assume that the RGBLED is even better.

Overall, it was a great laptop. I only got a XPS15 because my unit began throttling, and since Dell support was unable to resolve the throttling issue, they replaced my 1645.

As long as you don't have throttling issues, you have a very good laptop on your hands. Had mine not been replaced, I would have kept it for a while - at least until it was very outdated and couldn't keep up with demanding software/games.

I've had my 1645 for a couple of years and love it. The SSD wasn't as fast as I expected, but I think I'd gotten into the hype about them too much. Don't get me wrong, it's good. I got an RGBLED screen and that's fantastic, red's are oversaturated but you can adjust for that. Having a big 16" full HD display that is gorgeous to look at is a treat, especially compared to the budget screen on my m11x. I love the m11x too, but it's screen is a weakness. The multitouch pad and keyboard work great for me too.

With regard to throttling, I made sure to get the 130 Watt power brick, and haven't really found myself putting my system under heavy loads very often so it's been fine. I played around with throttlestop at first and tested it throttling but it hasn't ever bothered me. I use my m11x hooked up to a Dell 2707 monitor to game, which uses the nvidia 540m which is better than the ati 5730 on the S-XPS 1645. If I used the 1645 more often for gaming, I might have noticed a bit of throttling.

All in all, I'm very happy and plan to hold onto the 1645 as long as I can.
