I ordered my XPS 15 on Dec 31, 2010. Estimated ship date was 1/13/11 with delivery by 1/18/11. Actual ship date was 1/4/11 and I received it on 1/8/11 so it was much faster than estimated. I have heard it can go both ways though. Someone will have to sign for the package but they didn't ask for ID or anyone so it is just a signature, not necessarily the person who orders it. Alternatively I believe if you aren't going to be home during the day you can request Fedex to hold the package at their office and you can go by and pick it up and sign for it at your convenience.

The ESD's are usually over-estimated ~ in case there are any problems in Production (delays, back orders), etc.

If you have given written permission for FedEx to leave at your door (Signature Release), then they will. Otherwise, they will leave a note & advise of a redelivery try. You can also arrange to pick up from your local FedEx Depot in the evening if it's missed.
