I paid way too much money and way too much time on the custom paint of my XPS m1530 so I want to protect it as much as I can when I'm traveling, which is quite often.

I liked the looks of the case it came with, but it left a lot to be desired for protection, so I got a different case.

I put packing foam on the bottom and top of the notebook in the case to help cushion it.

I also put the thin foam paper between the keys/screen to keep the keyboard from touching.

Then I put that case in my backpack for more protection. I didn't buy the one from Dell that says XPS or Dell as I don't want to advertise to the thieves that I have a notebook, especially a XPS.

Excessive I know, but at least I have peace of mind knowing the notebook and paint will be safe.

think it would be better with the invisibleshield/bestskinsever film on the top, but might have some trouble applying the adhesive...

Dells seem to be pretty well built. I used to carry my XPS in a nice case, but it's so old that I don't care and throw it in anything. I've never managed to break it (well small chip on one edge now). So far it's survived summer heat on the front seat, and trying to use it at -6F temps (HD wouldn't boot until I warmed it up, but worked fine after that).

Sorry to be blunt about it, but excessive? - understatement.
How long does it take you to unwrap it and rewrap it?

    "So it doesn't get dirty"

There's value and then there's a shiny toy in the corner that you don't actually play with because you it might get damaged or dirty or whatever...

Seriously people this is like ocd, If I'm going to throw 3/4000 euro's on a laptop, I'm spending that much because I wan't to get enjoyment - out of using it!

Not because I wan't other people to go woo.. he's got money.
As it'l prob end up woo.. he's got money, he he.. Lets rob him!

I just use a blue Targus backpack for 17" laptops. Well padded, works great... no scratches yet.

I've got the Belkin travelling bag for a 15.4", it seems nice, lotsa pockets. So far, that and the logitech mouse are the only part of my order that has come. Hoping for the 1530 tomorrow or the next day.

I'll have some peripherals, headphones, microphone, mouse, etc., so the thinner the notebook, the better...

Maybe if I'd gotten a custom paint job and the laptop was like a piece of artwork with my one unique design, it'd be worth protecting it from scratches a bit more, but for a normal one - ahh.. too much work.

First... jealousy is a terrible thing! ;)
Second, I probably use my notebook FAR more than you do! I use it for work and play for at least 8-12 hours a day. I've owned at least 25 notebooks since my first one in 1985... probably before you were born by the way you talk.
Third, I like to take care of my things! :)

Oh, if your referring to my Corvette as a toy... yes it is and I drive and go to many shows:

This is how I protect my 1530 when traveling *to-and-fro*...I pack it in my Maddie Power's Cutebug Messenger bag, and it has all the protection (inside) it needs ;) :D

Jack, I know exactly what you mean. My notebook is hitting 2 years in August, but just because of how I take care of it, similar to your style, it's still in perfect condition.

As of now, I use a Swiss Gear Wenger 15.4" Laptop Backpack.

I have the Swiss Gear Wenger bag, not the backpack, the notebook case...I forget what it is called!

I love it but I'm actually a little dis-enfranchised with it...it's supposed to fit laptops up to 17" but I could only get it to fit my 1530 by adjusting the inner barrier and flipping the pocket for the AC adaptor on its side. However, it does feel very safe in it.

I should mention that I don't use that bag exclusively - if I'm taking a bunch of stuff with me somewhere I'll slip the laptop into the sleeve it came in and put that in my duffel bag. That also works fine.

What I'm most paranoid about is fingerprints on the tuxedo black, LOL. I find myself taking a baby wipe and a kleenex to it at the end of every day to wipe off the finger prints!

I use a Codi bag. I've used it for all my notebook PCs for the last ten years. I even dropped one about 3 feet in it once onto concrete. It totally protected it without even a blemish. Best bag ever and still looks brand new.

Say... you think you could get that many Hooters girls to pose in front of (err, make that behind) your XPS... ?

Back to business: I agree with you and having paid roughly $2,250* for my 1330, I do want it too look perfect for [a few] years to come...!

I am, however, satisfied with keeping it in the original Dell 1330 sleeve and placing the sleeve in my Samsonite backpack (it's a business-oriented model) and has a separate compartment for Notebooks. Since the 1330 is a 13", it's sleeve fits nicely in a backpack compartment designed for ~15" Notebooks :)

Last but not least - and maybe most importantly, I use a lappymat to protect the screen. After all, the screen's what you stare at most of the time... ;)

I would use memory foam to enclose the laptop. Gotta get a bigger skin to accomodate it though. Sometimes plastics can react with other plastics and paint and leave a mark.

why not just take the m1530, put it in the corvette, and then put a giant ball/condum around it. That's the best protection money can buy, lol, lol, lol.

Just kidding: I see you pampering a 30 year old vette because it might be worth almost as much as my mustang(FORD !!!), but seriously all that for a dell.

I have an '05, but I guess you can consider its as one of those 64 to early 70's mustangs. Mustangs and Corvettes are way funner than Dells and HP's.

I put it in the Dell sleeve even when moving from one room to the other. For bigger distances the sleeve goes in a Samsung Laptop backpack

Nice to take care of your stuff.

Also, nice job taking the pictures. A lot of pictures are blurry and just plain messed up. Good job.
