Horizontal lines while playing "The Witcher"

    Hey guys,

Overall I have been pretty satisfied with the video performance using my L502X so far. I have been playing Crysis at maximum settings and the game runs flawlessly. I installed "The Witcher" today, and I was extremely disappointed with the results.

This game was released in 2007, so it is about 4 years old. I assumed I could run all settings on maximum. During game play and the movies, I get horizontal lines (for lack of a better term). This happens a lot when the camera is moving fast, or there is a lot of movement on the screen.

What could be the problem here?

I have the resolution set to 1366 x 768, because I have the 720p screen. I have also tried turning the anti-aliasing down and this didn't seem to change anything.

I do not know all that much about video, but I know the basics. I have the latest drivers for my graphics card (540M). I even tried a mild over clock (740/960), and that didn't change anything either.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    I am really disappointed.

    Erick

Try enable VSync (vertical sync) in the game.

Ok, going to try it and report back.

Thanks very much for the ultra-quick response.

    Hey guys,

Tried turning on Vertical Sync (in Nvidia control panel), still does the same thing - horizontal lines while playing the game, and during the movies. I have a few questions:

    1) Like I mentioned before, I have the updated drivers for my video card - are there any other drivers I should update for my system that might cause an issue like this?

    2) Does anyone else play The Witcher with a machine similar to mine (see signature)? If so, what are your experiences?

    3) I also hooked up my system to an HD TV today for the first time. I played a 720p movie, and I got the horizontal lines on the HD TV as well. This was while on battery, would this cause a problem like this?

Thanks very much for any information.

    Erick

Is there a VSync option inside the game that you could try instead?

When you say you have the latest drivers, do you mean the official release, or beta?

I recently try the beta drivers from another thread, and they caused a very similar sounding problem to yours when watching video's and playing The Witcher 2.

I went back to the 270.61 drivers, and all was well again.

I did just upgrade to a newer driver, I am downloading the 270.61 right now.

Will let you know what happens.

What are the other most important drivers to update?

    Thanks.

Same thing with graphics driver 270.61, no change.

A few days ago I installed Nvidia System Tools, and it has a whole bunch of components. I haven't messed with anything, but do you think this could cause these symptoms?

What would happen if I un-installed all of the Nvidia system components listed in my Add/Remove programs list, will the system still run ok? What I'd like to do is start fresh with all software related to video/gaming.

    Thanks.
