    Hello everyone :),

recently i spilled coffee on my dell studio xps laptop. I turned it upsidedown and dried it off with a hair dryer for about 5 minutes. I let it set for a little bit and it worked fine for 2 weeks and then all of sudden i woke up one morning and when i turned it on, the keyboard would light up (as normal) and it would just shut off.

When i try press the power button nothing happends but when i take the battery in and out and lift the lid the laptop automatically turns on the same proccess happends, keyboard lights up and it just dies. This happends every time i take the battery in and out.

    Could someone please help me,
    thanks

did you try taking out the battery and then holding the power button for 20 seconds and then re-assemble and see what happens.

I think if you have exhausted all the reset methods it might be time to break a screwdriver out.
How much coffee did you spill on it and was it on it or next to it and it ran underneath?

I think if it was something else and not the coffee to blame you might of voided your warranty unfortunately :(

Oh, :( I had asked, because I thought that the Accidental Coverage Warranty usually covered Accidental Spills, etc..(if you had that coverage). sorry. :(

I think you are best opening it up and checking for visible damage.

The scenario I have in my mind is, the coffee was spilt and its dried up and settled somewhere the lappy's not happy about.
Open it up (there are diagrams on the Dell site I believe) check and clean anywhere its contaminated the PCB or connections. Unfortunately you don't really have many other options right now and doing it yourself won't cost anything.
If that fails, you might have to ship back to Dell for an out of warranty repair :(

haha yeah sucks :(... i just need to find out was the problem most likely is so i can act or get another professional to fix it... a price on how much it would roughly cost would be good aswell :(

The price can run into the price of a new unit, which is why I say open it up yourself and clean it - you might get lucky!

Neither am I but I would still give it a shot bearing in mind as it stands the laptop is potentially a paper weight.
I stripped one down once and found a sort of goo in it which explained why it use to shut down all the time. Cleaned it with a kitchen degreaser IIRC and it worked fine until my friends child stood on it (ARGHHH!!!!).

You would need a small cross head screwdriver and some kind of cleaning liquid and a cloth.

Disconnect the keyboard and see if it stays on.
