Okay I have a studio XPS 1640. I just need a few questions answered so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I pulled apart the bottom of the laptop just cleaning and thought i would have a look under the heatsink because i was having some heat issues. Upon removing the heatsink and i was almost astonished when i seen how much thermal compound was there, none on the cpu and way to much on the gpu. I have never replaced thermal compound on a laptop, so if anyone could link to to a video or provide a picture of what it should look like as a finished product It would be amazing :) Also is there a paste that I should use with this particular setup? I was thinking arctic silver 5 but if anyone has any suggestions im open. Thanks

    check this link

It will almost be same for XPS 1640.Just the design of the headsink and the processor might be different.
In my opinion, arctic silver 5 will be the best option.
