    Random BSODs tend to be very hard to diagnose without replacement parts. They tend to be hardware issues too. But we'll eliminate the software factors first.

    I assume your drivers are updated and Windows is patched.

    A BSOD on the HAL layer is rare. What antivirus/firewall are you using?

    I m using kasperky internet security 2009. firewall is vista default one.

    NB: I have used chipset and nVidia driver from the dell website. actually almost all the drivers i have installed from dell website.

    It's unlikely that KIS is causing it. But it is worth a try. Uninstall that. Then see where it goes. Or reinstall Windows.

    i have just reinstalled OS. it's too disturbing to install the os as i have got dual boot with xp. and the BSOD is intermittent, like today i left my laptop on but didn't get the BSOD. so do u think i should uninstall ksprsky without being sure?

    There is a known issue with kaspersky causing BSOD. Check their support section, make sure you have the latest patches, etc.

    That might not be your problem, but you can at least eliminate a known problem.

    Wow, this is something new to know. i had my kaspersky Version 2009 (8.0.0.506). i have checked the forum and found there r lots of new version in offer to upgrade. so i did the very latest one which is Version 2010 (9.0.0.736). oh by the way, i have disabled kis's firewall. i rather prefer windows firewall. let's see what happen now. thanx a lot mate...

    NB: ANY MORE ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
