they came out last week. They are not on Dells site yet. I have the XPS L501x with the 420M gpu by the way. I was wondering if any of you guys tried them yet ? and if so are they good ?

On the Nivdia site is say there was a performance increase with this new driver.

To install this new driver should I go to uninstall program in the control panel and uninstall the old nivdia driver first then reboot and then install new driver ?

I looked at the nivida website and dells and and from what I could find they seem to just say install driver and no mention about uninstalling.

    thanks

i always uninstall just to be safe. use the control panel->add/remove programs thingy to unisntall. then boot into safe mode and run ccleaner's reg cleaner and driver sweeper. then boot up and install new driver.

there's also an option in the installation of the new driver that allows you to Perform a clean install. I think that can replace the whole uninstalling old driver thing but i dont really use that.

I've trid it and I've had the graphics go black and then get the error message that says the graphics stopped working twice already. If it happens again I will go back to Dells driver or wait for Dell to post it on the downloads see if their driver helps.

I've been using them for a few days now, haven't had any problems at all. Don't know if there is any significant performance increase, haven't had time to do any benchmarking.

There is a post http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...whql-270-61-driver-available.html#post7386936 that is also discussing this new Nvidia Driver. Some people are saying that they are getting good impovements in their FPS for gaming.

NVIDIA DRIVERS 270.61 WHQL discusses the improvements with this driver.

    Thanks

According to the NVIDIA site they are the best drivers ever, they even emailed me stated so. Admittedly they are aimed more at SLI users and desktops from what I've gathered but you will still see improvements on your 420m.
Technically you should uninstall the previous driver and then install the new however NVIDIA now do this with the installation package so it is slightly surplus. If you encounter any errors then obviously you simply uninstall and reinstall the new drivers.
I've been running them since release with my overclocked 540m and can't say I've seen anything amazing.
I've found them stable and typically with any driver update I get a few extra FPS during gaming.
Worth upgrading because, well why not! You bought a new laptop, keep the drivers fresh to maximize it.

I don't fine any difference in the new set of drivers as compared to the beta driver.

It may have been the introduction of further stability in my overclock that increased the FPS for me although it is hard to say
