    Based in Ireland:

I'm about to buy one of these and Dell sales assistant told me that the original 1330 was shipped with incorrect BIOS settings and this caused problems..

He assures me that current laptops are shipped with updated setting and there won't be any problem. If there is they will replace the laptop.

I'm hesitant... should I trust them?

What is the problem / problems that you / the sales assistant are talking about?

And what was the fix in BIOS that was made???

I was referring to the noted problems with the Nvidia Graphics card overheating the motherboard. He didn't give specifics about BIOS changes but I noted some references on here to it..

The latest A12 bios has "thermal management" changes in it...it's still debateable if they actually fixed anything. Common concensus is that it just runs the fan more often. The nvidia GPU problem is a packaging design flaw, and IMHO no amount of fan running is going to save it.

I've had my M1330 for 9 months now, it ran flawlessly up until 2 weeks ago, then the GPU went bad. Dell replaced the mobo, no hassles other than having to wait a few days to get the tech scheduled for the on site service (but that's not entirely Dell's fault).

There is nothing that could be done that is supposed to have the nVidia Graphic Card issue *fixed* with BIOS changes...

nVidia problem is completely separate from whatever that could be done by the BIOS. BIOS updates have been released for the 1330 and for the 1530 too, for example, where the fan turns on earlier than before, BUT *this does not* mean the nVidia issue was *fixed* with these BIOS changes / updates.

The nVidia issue still remains an issue, and Dell has a 12 month limited warranty extension, specific to the GPU issue, where they will replace the unit if it fails. Cheers.

Thanks ... just spoke with Dell sales in Ireland and guy told me there was no issue with GPU or motherboard... I told him it's all over tech forums and he still insisted there was no problem... mixed message abound

Its been the case ever since this issue with the nVidia faulty GPU components came to light!!!! Information has not been consistent and such...

The best thing would be to hope for the best and make use of the warranty.. and enjoy your system. Both the M1330 and M1530 are pretty nice machines, IMHO...

Btw fonduekid to you know where the press release about the extended warranty would be or if there was actually one released?

Its just I've been trying to find out whether the extended warranty is global or what the story is.

btw I being trying to get on to my dell salesman (Ireland)
It seems I can't get any response at all with regards to this issue.

AFAIK, there was no "press release", but the announcement is posted in detail in the Direct2Dell blog (was covered over 4 blog posts actually, I think) and recently it was also confirmed by some tech support people here, when I just wanted to find out....

though I must mention, other NBRites have said the tech support They spoke with had no idea about this extended warranty, but Dell *has been* replacing systems with failed GPU units.. though it was not clear to me if this was being done from within the extended warranty or the original system warranty.

Oh okay cheers, I still better get on to my rep and give him a grilling, funny - any of the other times I emailed him about placing new orders he got back to within a day, two at the most, though I emailed him a week ago about this and funnily enough he hasn't got back to me..
    I wonder why :) :) :)
