One of the network guys in my office is running Windows Server 2008 on his workstation. I am wondering what drivers I would use if I wanted to try this on my laptop? Would the Vista 64 drivers work? As I understand things, Server 2008 shares the same base as Vista and I am assuming Vista drivers will work. I'm hoping someone here might have been crazy enough to try this already.

I tried it. Getting bluetooth to work is a pain, and I could never get the bluetooth PAN to work, I believe most of the rest worked. I got a BSOD installing powerdvd I believe and decided to go back to Vista 64. It was about 2AM and I had been playing since about 6PM. :)

One thing that should be noted. Since W2K8 is server code, some workstation applications (Virus Software) will not install and the server versions will need to be gotten.

    Thanks for the feedback.

@ZE6JMB I have heard that WS2K8 is more responsive than Vista, and that's really what I'm interested in discovering. I'm really curious how much of the improvement is just the peace of mind gained from not running "Vista" proper.

Not that Vista is bad... it's better than Win95... right? ;)

I haven't loaded it on my M1530, but I ran it as the main OS on my M140 for a few months. On that notebook, it used all of the standard Vista drivers. Of course the M140 wasn't designed for Vista, but I still found drivers for everything and the OS ran superbly. I can't imagine why it wouldn't run great on the M1530.

By the way, if you decide to go that way, here's a site with some instructions on how best to convert Server 2008 to Workstation 2008:

It runs very well on my Studio 15 with the Vista x64 drivers. I think one of the reasons why it runs a bit better than Vista is because not everything is on by default. So you get to choose more of what you want installed. It has to be more refined since enterprise customers demand more out of their OS.
