I've been on this issue ever since I got my laptop. I used to have a Western Digital (WD1600BEVT) and it made that annoying clicking/crushing/crippling noise every 3-5 seconds and even on idle (both Windows Vista and Windows XP). So I replaced it with a 320GB Seagate 7200rpm drive and this one clicks also, but quieter.

I did a test; I used my old WD as an external USB drive and noticed it does not click anymore. Now is this a XPS M1530 problem or what?
