Tonight I got around to trying the HDMI output on the XPS M1330 with my Panasonic plasma.

Initially I thought the picture looked stunning. I was very happy, but then I noticed the picture had been cropped - i.e. it was missing some information from the left and right hand side of the display. I tried the 1080i setting, but this made it even worse. The 720p setting seemed to be the best.

Anyone know how to fit all elements perfectly on to an external HDMI display? It's a shame, because as it stands it is almost unusable - even though the elements you can see on the screen look excellent.

I'm having this same problem. I tried looking into the nVidia control panel, but no luck. Any help would be great!

I'll try and contact Dell sometime today or tomorrow.

Perhaps we need some new NVidia drivers?

Perhaps this is a silly question, but how did you select between 1080p and 1080i on the m1330??

If your TV supports it, then it becomes an option on the nVidia control panel. The control panel should correctly identify your TV manufacturer.

Anyone else had these cropping issues?

Its not the HDMI setting on the Dell m1330... Its the settings on your TV screen (which are likely 16:9)

See if you have a "1 to 1" pixel for pixel mode, or "Just-Scan" mode on your TV, and that will solve your problem..

Yes, that should do it. Should have thought of that myself. I'll try it when I get home this evening.

That's a similar model to mine. I have the commercial panel (without speakers) and on the remote there should be a "display" button where you can choose between "Just", "Normal", "Zoom", etc.

It's called Overscan. In the nvidia control panel, you should have the option of creating a custom profile to change the resolution to fit within the confines of the HDTV.

Same thing with my HTPC using a DVI->HDMI adapter. For the 720p TV I had to set the resolution to something around 1216x676.

So i've added two new features to the system tracker.

The first is 'bug tracker'. The idea behind this is that if and when people notice an issue with their system such as bad build quality, CPU whine, res changing after lid opens (etc.), they enter the bug into the system along with a definitive solution.

There are numerous long threads popping up over the place which makes it hard to track down the actual solution (if there is one) to a problem. Keeping them all in one place will mean it is simple and easy to find the solution.

The two new links related to this on the menu are:
My Bug(s) - Bugs you have personally submitted.
Bug Tracker - All bugs submitted by everyone.

The second new option I have added is a Review Tracker. Since people have started to receive their XPS M1330's, people have started to write some very good custom reviews which are not getting the lime-light they deserve. The idea behind the review tracker is to keep links to or copies of reviews on one place filed clearly by system and author. You can either add a link to a review via the URL option, or you can repliacte your review by submitting it into the description. I have even allowed pictures to be uploaded - so free image hosting for reviews as well. Please make sure that if you are going to submit a review in its entirity and you did not write it, that you have the permision of the original author.

I'm going to start populating the Bug Tracker and Review Tracker but I would also like the help of all you guys to keep it up to date - as everyone has done so well with the System Tracker.

    Cheers,
    J

I couldn't see any custom profile... but I did get the picture to display perfectly within the confines within the TV!

    - Pressing "display" on the TV remote to switch between "Full", "Just", etc didn't work. Only "Full" was allowed.
    - BUT, I have the commercial model of the Panasonic plasma and if you press "Size" on the remote up comes settings for vertical/horizontal size/positioning and voila - fits perfectly! :)

My TV is only 1080i 1280*768. Damn, I'd like to see the output of one of these 1330's on a 50 inch 1080p 1900*1080 panel!!! Note to self: have already spent a lot of money...

could someone direct me to where within the nvidia control panel you can manually set the resolution? mine only allows me to go through the preset resolution options even when i try to create a custom profile.

I've got the 50PX600U, 50", same model but with a PC input, and it still crops on the edges. I tried pushing Aspect on the remote, but it doesn't help. I was able to output 1080P via hdmi though :)

It's not a fault in the GPU, laptop or even drivers as such, it's to do with how TV's display the image. Overscan is a throwback from the old days of CRT, and it's criminal that they still do it. If your HDTV has a VGA port, that will not overscan, thus is preferable.

A lot of 1080p TV's boast 'full scan' or similar m. Damn cheekyodes, which essentially means it does not overscan that the market that as a 'feature'.
