after "upgrading" to XP, i am not getting the HDMI audio output. there are only 3 options - Sigmatel Audio, Bluetooth audio and Bluetooth high quality audio. there is also another thread on this but no solution was offered....

my sigmatel audio driver version is 5.10.0.5401.

plz refrain from posting replies like "XP is outdated, Vista is the future" and stuff like that. i like XP and will continue using it.

    nobody knows this problem?

this is getting frustrating as ive tried different drivers for both my sigmatel drivers and nvidia drivers. but the HDMI audio option still doesn't appear under the playback devices.

This is true also for my M1330 with NVIDIA graphics. But even if there is no HDMI output as device, the audio works OK over the HDMI connector, simultaneously with the classic audio path - speakers or headphones.
With Intel graphics you'll have HDMI Audio as device in Windows XP.

so the picture goes onto the screen and not the audio? maybe try a different hdmi port or put int he port and then restart the computer. did you ever see if your hdmi was detected under vista?

Go into the sigmatel driver properties by right clicing the speaker icon on the taskbar and click "playback devices" then select Digital Output Device (HDMI) and click "set as default". That should send sounds over HDMI with the video instead of through the laptop speakers. Yuou may have to put the laptop to sleep then wake it up after doing this for the audio to work properly.

One suggestion will be to try the driver from XPS M1330 which is 5.10.5515

Found a solution for this problem

in the volume control applet, you activate the "Advanced Controls" then in the Advanced panel, you have 2 checkboxes.

PC Spk Mute: mute the speakers and only the speakers (not the HDMI) on the laptop
    SPDIF Interface: HDMI Interface.
