    What kind of noise?

When do you have it? Always? during start up? when running some tasks like system restore or scanning?

How long have you had the system?

    Turn off Search indexing.

Right click C drive, click properties, Uncheck the Indexing box, click OK/Apply.

Wait like 3 minutes and it slows down and goes away almost completely

I have the same problem as OP, Nonstop spinning and heating. I disabled indexing and superfetch. Still getting this annoying thrashing noise. Im going to cry. I hate it. In resource Monitor it looks like my HD is constantly writing in Logfile w.e that is.

There are many threads on many different forums about this problem. We need an expert for this.

Is it the clicking / crackling noise or is it a kind of whining / constant beep noise? If its the latter, then its also probably the processor.. there is a knowledge base article posted around here in another thread with a similar title or something like 'beep or whine' in the title.. forgot where exactly. Will get back if I manage to find it.

If its the former, then again, there are lots of tips and suggestions for turning off services like indexing etc.. please search around.

Get in "process explorer" from MS sysinternal and look whats happening. You could also get in Diskmon and Filemon, very useful tools to know whats happening or whats being written / read from the HDD... See if there is anything thats safe to be turned off or whatever.. (you could get back here and search with the name of the process / service or whatever) Good luck.

Its got to be the HD, its on the left side of the touch pad, if i press down on the aluminum i can feel it spinning... well vibrating a bit. In resource monitor it shows that my hard drive is always writing something in c\$filelog every few seconds. My hard drive is going to fry any day because of this.

I want to like my dell xps 1530 but like this i cant.
