lately, i've been gettin random (rare) BSOD's. i think there might be somethin wrong with my HDD. sometimes the CHKDSK will automatically scan and tell me it was detectin some error in my HDD, upon start up.

after the CHKDSK finishes scannin/testin, everythin will be normal. do u guys think i should be worried about my HDD? i might give dell a call.

If you are in Vista: Click the Start button, and type in "Solution", click the "Problems and Solutions" shorcut. This will give you a read-out of issues you have had and any solutions the MS wizards have given you. See what BSOD #'s are most common/recent and post them up here. You can use HDD Health or HD Tune to see about your laptops current SMART health state as well.

First off, backup all of your data to another drive. Just in case.

Secondly, download HD Tune and run a full scan of the hard drive. That may give you a hint on how the drive is fairing, and if it might fail in the near future. Additionally, try checking the S.M.A.R.T. status of the drive using HD Tune and report the results.

The CHKDSK might just be a result of your laptop crashing at the wrong time though. It could also be a RAM problem, so try downloading MemTest86+, burn it to a CD, and run a memory test for about 24 hours. Corrupt RAM will always cause problems.

Hey dude, i had similar problems where my comp kept hanging and chkdsk on booting also found errors, i later ran a diagnostic test by holding teh fn key when simultaneously powering my comp on. I followed the prompts and surely diagnostics gave me errors and stuff. If you do get any errors make a note of the error codes and let dell know, thats what i did and dell are now going to replace my hdd, btw as mentioned above you could also check your S.M.A.R.T. status on your drive, google around as there are many programs that can do it for free, i did it and it said my hdd could fail anytime! So i was quite glad i did those tests! i used a program called smartdefender, since my hdd is a hitachi, but this program is hard to find online as it is discontinued.
