Got my Dell M1530 today, and I'm pretty impressed with it so far. I don't seem to have any of the problems I've read about such as the bulging keyboard or grainy screen.

I am going to be doing a clean install and I had a couple questions.

    1. Are all the drivers I need on the included CD's that come with the laptop?

    2. I've got the set up for avast anti virus and comodo firewall on my external harddrive so I can instal them right after the reformat and I was wondering what spyware tools I should use (i.e Spybot Search and Destroy)

    3. I'm going to be having partitions for Vista, Media Direct and Ubuntu. What sizes should I make them? (I'll be keeping my media files on my external HD. I'll be using the vista partition to play games and the Ubuntu for general use.)

    2) Vista has a spyware tool, Window Defender... works quite well

    3) i would say Vista ~ 40-50GB, Ubuntu 30GB, a 'main' parittion for the rest

i have a 320GB hdd in my 1530 and i have 100GB for Vista, and about 190GB for ubuntu (x86_64!), 1gb for swap, and some other misc small linux partitions, and the rest is taken up by the HPA for the dell direct. also, that recovery partition takes up some space too.

i do pretty much what you plan; ubuntu for daily use and vista for gaming (jury is still out on that one). i didnt do a clean vista install; in fact gparted did a fantastic job of resizing the main windows partition. also some folks have noted issues with using dell media direct after repartitioning, but mine has worked perfectly.

as for tools for windows, i always use spybot, adaware, zonealarm and avg. but im rarely in windows except to game so it doesnt really matter that much, imho.
