Hey guys I am new here as you may have noticed and would like to firstly introduce myself. I came here to share that I will be purchasing an M1530 tomorrow whilst the $619 off deal is still valid. I have read around and found out that this is supposedly a fantastic computer and should suit my needs perfectly. The laptop I am on is a 5.5 year old Dell Inspiron 4150 with a 1.7Ghz P4 processor and 512 megs of RAM so needless to say, I am pumped about this new computer. It will contain the following:

    Tuxedo Black (After much debate)

    Windows Vista Business Premium

    3 Gigs of ram

    250 gig 5400 RPM HD

1680x1200 15.4 inch glossy screen display (obviously)

2.2 Ghz C2D 800mhz FSB with a 4 meg cache ( It was important I get the 4 meg cache for performance longterm)

This computer will need to last about 3 or 4 years as this is the cycle and it seems just the computer to do it! Well nice to meet you guys and please be sure to share your thoughts.

Looks like a pretty nice system. Yesterday I ordered a Dell XPS M1330 with a similar processor.

I really don't game, at most I will be playing WoW which that computer should EASILY handle as even on this 5 year old computer I can play it "decently". Got a question for you guys though, is there really a noticeable difference between the 2 meg and 4 meg caches? Now that I am thinking about it I really just kind of assumed, plus I would just like the upperhand as far as specs go anyway but I want to make sure I am not in the wrong here.

Just to be sure, you have read about the grainy screens, right?

Yes I am aware of them but I really am not willing to go to the efforts to have it replaced unless it's a glaring issue that affects what I am doing.

you probably wont see much of a difference between 2 and 4 megs of L2 cache today. but in a few years, you'll notice that you computer wont lag behind when trying to run new programs that really take advantage of multiple core processors

One last question for you guys.....Windows Vista business is more or less the XP Pro of this OS correct? It is what I would want to get if at all possible?

what is the 600$+ off deal???
    -edit nevermind found it

What do you need Vista Business for? I think Vista Ultimate is the XP Pro, if you can even compare them.

Cache makes a difference. We're talking instruction and data cache here. It is like ultra fast static RAM, and the processor does pre-fetching of both instructions and data to stuff them down the piplelines as fast as possible. It is worth getting the 4MB cache. The same is true of cache on hard drives, the more the better.

I just ordered a similar system. What is the estimated shipping date on yours? Mine is 2/13, with an arrival date between 2/18 and 2/20 for 3-5 day shipping.
