My speakers stopped working a week back (headphones work though), talked to dell and they send a technician to replace the assembly. Now the technician screws it up and the machine won't boot. They are sending a new XPS 1645. Just to be sure i remove the back panel remove reattach the Hard Drive and the system boots again !! There is no wireless though. Now i change the connection wires to the MiniPCIE, wireless works. Though there is problem with speakers. This technician is of the worst kind. But i get my NEW XPS :)

    Nice one! :)

How can Dell employ such terrible technicians? I'm sure half the people on NBR could do a better job!

I agree, Dell techs are the worst. I bet the contracted techs cost Dell more money than sending a new replacement out.
Are they sending you an identical system?

Tell him to be extra careful. My tech tries his best not to scratch my laptop after working with me 2-3 times. ;)

My technician came by to replace my motherboard (loud fan), and afterwards the laptop isn't balanced and wobbles back and forth when I type. So dell's giving me a replacement (hopefully with upgraded parts)

Your getting a replacement because it wobbles..... And you want upgraded parts......

Whatever it was, he messed something up, and could not fix it, redirecting me to dell. Although it is unlikely, the only reason I said upgraded parts, is because it seems others, while being told they would get identical laptops, have ended up getting some sort of improvement.

And yes, I do understand that others have gotten replacements due to serious problems (throttling, screen problems, etc.) and have gotten improvements because that was either dell's way of solving the problem, or the components they previously had were no longer offered.

I do not expect to get upgraded parts, it simply would be awesome if I did.

I don't think I could watch somebody work on my rig. Its the same as watching somebody work on my jeep...painful. Especially since I rely on this laptop to make a living and know that I can diagnose and fix it easily.

Dell techs have been good for me always lol. I've gotten 2 different replacement SXPS 1645s and they've all come with free upgrades (1st replacement was 1640 -> 1645, enough said. Also went from 4 > 8 GB RAM and HDD to SSD free, 2nd replacement was ATI 4670 > ATI 5730 free). Recently had a tech replace the screen on 2 SXPS laptops and he basically ripped it all apart and it's working fine since.

HA! I love it. I'm with liquidxit2 on this one. I (my work, really) own a XPS M1530 and I had the dreaded sparkly screen. I had a tech come out and replace the screen and I sat and watched the guy in my office for nearly 2 hours straight. The guy told me afterwards that he was super nervous and never had anyone watch him like that. AS IF I would let him touch my baby without my eagle eye watchin'!
