hey, i know there are millions of threads out there about GPUs in the xps m1530, but no quite like this one, today i opened up my computer from sleep, i opened Fraps, and EvE online, and at firts it ran perfectly, giving me 150 fps, and i was able to film at 50 fps, it was amaizing, it was running like a charm, but then i noticed my fps going down, down , down , until while filming it reached 20 fps and i stopped filming and it was at 34 fps, i closed the game and took a look at hwmonitor, witch had been open the whole time, it was showing a peak temperature of 77 C and it was currently running at 72 C, that is no temperature for downclocking, and now that i have restarted it, its normal again, my drivers are 175.19 downloaded at laptopvideo2go, anyone got any suggestions?

also my FPS also drop 300 to 28 when i umplug it, even when at high performance...

I'm not quite sure about the recording part. But the powermizer downclock the gpu when unplugged even with high power mode unless you completely disable it.

You could try different drivers, and also do further experimenting to see whether temperature *really* is causing the problem.

hmmm, well allright, how could i disable it ?

yep running some tests right now
might be an issue with the sleep mode tho, but il keep it updated, see how it goes.

Did you make sure your computer power settings are set to High Performance mode? That could be it.

Its natural for lower performance on Power Saver, and even on Balanced occasionally.

It could be your GPU is.... dying..... I don't want to say that though.

Good idea in restarting or shutting down then starting up. Sleep mode does like to play some tricks sometimes.

Hopefully it works alright this time. Keep up posted.

okay i tried it again, and this time there were no fps decrease, must have been something on the sleep function, still, just to make sure, is there any way that HWmonitor could be displaying an incorrect temperature, or is it full proof?

Thanks anyway for your time and posts!

u could also try another monitorin program such as rivatuner, to see if there's any temp-readin problems.

and if the problem keeps happenin, i'd do what bog said, and maybe try a diff driver.

good luck and keep us updated.

How long did you have it in sleep mode for?

But yeah, sleep mode may make it sleep, but it is not in full sleep. So things can get quirky sometimes. As houstoned suggested, you might want to try out a different driver, it would be best if you used the one that is from Dell with their own official INI instead of laptopvideo2go.

I just disabled the sleep function, and it seems to be working properly, i will keep testing see that everything goes smoothly.

by the way, anyone know where i can configure the power settings so that it doesn't underclock my gpu when unplugged ? its starting to get annoying, because i like to open up some games when flying for several hours, and yes i know my battery will suffer.

Just click on the battery indicator in right of the start menu and change it to high performance or balanced after you unplug it.

It drains battery life, but your gaming performance will be great!

Yeah, its definitely a driver issue. What drivers do you use? I'm assuming you use drivers from laptopvideo2go? Download an official Dell driver for your GPU and the GPU will perform as it should even on battery mode. What typically happens is that because the drivers on laptopvideo2go are not official drivers for Dell, some of them have problems with making the GPU perform right in battery mode. What should be happening is that the GPU should throttle up when you run a 3D application even if it looks like the clocks are turned down. Official Dell drivers will resolve the issue. Keep in mind the M1530 driver page does not contain the latest forceware drivers, sometimes for certain versions you go to the M1330 page, the 1720 page, etc. Just find one and use it.

hey, im back from my little trip, so i did some tests with the driver dell supports for the m1330, version 175.97, and it no longer underclocks when i unplug it, only when i set it to power saver, but when i set it to performance again its still underclocked, i have to restart my lappy to get my FPSs back. any ideas on what could be causing this ?

bumpy bump bump, lol this is starting to get annoying, my GPU underclocks either when i turn on my computer on battery, even when on high performance, or when i change it to power saver and then to high performance, it doesnt clock up again, im using driver version 175.97, anyone else experiencing this with this driver? any ideas on what could be causing this ?

thanks again for the replies ;D

Vista's power management? I think it uses the driver to enable those features.
