NVIDIA System Tools will work - Install the perfomance group only for OC'ing.

the nvidia 8400gs runs very cool when installed on an m1530, so you should be fine, just monitor your temps, and make sure they dont go over 84C when stressed.

the things you can OC are the core ( witch is hooked up to the shader clock ) and the memory, you should OC both to get best results.

i would recommend googling your card and seeing what OC other people are doing, because i had this card on my computer for a wee bit of time, but i didnt OC it.

well last time i had it OC'ed was around 4 months ago but i stopped since I didnt want to kill my gpu (30% increase on core and 40% increase on mem and temps never went above 70 degrees)...but im gonna take it easy since my warranty just died a couple days ago. Ill let you guys know how it turns out =)

Should I download this for my M1530 and would I see any benefits?

I have the standard graphics drivers installed from the Dell CD as far as I am aware, I don't recall updating them.

Any risks or issues I should be aware of or is it just a case of download, install and forget?

Your HardwareDevice ID may not be in the driver .inf file. If this is the case, then you will need to add it. This can be tricky if you are unfamiliar with nvidia's inf setup.

You can find your HardwareDevice ID by going into Device Manager and then opening up your Display Adapter and selecting the details tab (in vista) and then select the HardwareID pull down option. This will give you something that looks like:

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_060C&SUBSYS_019C1028

You will then need to search the .inf file (located in the nvidia driver directory) for:

DEV_xxxx (where xxxx is your device info)

If you dont find it, then this confirms its missing and it will need to be added to tell the driver to recognize your card.

This is just but one step in the process. You will also need to figure out which section (config settings) is applicable to your card and then add your card (device ID) to the inf and tell it to reference that section.

Your best bet is to try laptopvideo2go since they provide modded inf files with just about every card out there already listed.

When you select the mobile driver version it include several inf files for the different veideo cards. I would suggest you unzip the files to any folder you want to create with Winrar like I did it will create a display sub folder with all the inf files. I looked under nvao.inf and the 9400M card is listed there, you just need to use the I have a disk method to install the driver and point to the display folder and select the nvao.inf or other inf file as there are several, this should work on both the 32bit and 64bit version of the file.

I'm using 179.28 right now for my xps m1330. Is it recommended to update it to 185.85?
